True enough, but did you ever take notice that the behavioral problems increased when the belts & switches were put away, the government decided they knew more about raising kids than parents do, and "time out" was invented?

My great pyr lost a chicken. She got in a fight trying to protect whatever tried to grab it though her sides all bloody, her eye is scratched, and she brought the bird home to us. Poor girl
Dad's going to be cutting all the brush back from the fence line, and then setting some live traps. The stupid birds need to stay AWAY from the bushes out of the fence. I swear the red sex links are like the dumbest birds, ever.

I have yet to loose a turkey, a goose, or a duck, but every sex link is like "oh, this is the place that might get me killed, yep, let me hang out *right* here."

For what it's worth, we are going to be getting a dog kennel, making it portable and using it for a small flock of red sex links next spring. After having had about 12 total over the last year, all of them have gotten themselves killed in one fashion or another. They just don't have "Street smarts" to survive like the other breeds.
We have yet to lose an easter egg chicken or rooster. The silkies have been hit or miss if they free range with the bigger birds, so they have their own pen, and haven't had an issues. Our pig actually likes the silkies and protects them. She even keeps the goats away from them if they go into her pen.

I didn't know what I thought! Oh my I've been good! Been doing all sorts of crazy things with my life. It's certainly been over a year since I posted on this thread! I miss having my own chickens but such is life. At least I still get to hatch eggs! How have you crazy peeps been?

Must be just your strain; I had 3 RSL in my current small flock, and never lost a one to predation. I did lose two for unknown causes at about 3 y.o., & still have one of their sisters.
