You said it. I got out of practice - trying to come back, but can't keep up any more.
And a very special Hello to Our most precious and prized possession @Sally Sunshine
X 100,000,000!!!!

I just have to admit to myself that I'm avoiding digging holes for planting the apple trees. But if I don't do it, it won't get done. And it's gotta get done. NOW. Soooooo... (sigh) I guess I should go out and start digging.

Sorry for not quoting separately, but hugs to everyone!

Off to dig. I may be back if my shoulder starts acting up (maybe then I can hang out with the Busted Wing Gang then...)

"kristen!!!! hugs and love!!!
do you have to amend soil for the trees? what do apple trees like in the soil?
Nope, you dig a hole, as deep as the roots/pot it's in, and really wide to trail out the roots, and then just backfill with the dirt you took out of the hole. If you amend the soil where you plant them, the roots aren't encouraged to grow out of the planting hole. I've got a good spot in the yard where I can dig pretty deep and the soil is good (there are other parts of the yard where there is solid limestone about 2" under the surface!

I had a hen sitting on NN/frizzles eggs 3, she forgot where her nest was they went cold-bad.
I gave her store eggs from a farm 2 hrs away,( 9 ) I called the farmer to askabout the eggs, she said they were un washed, yeah! I asked what kind of eggs they were, she said NN. What were the chances? I went to check in broody, and saw one hen fowled the nest (roosted on nest box I think) and broody ate an egg. I took the eggs away and damp cloth/dryclothed wiped them. I will have to scrape later, but I don't want to stress the egg. I popped them in my incubator

I dashed to the store grabbed another dozen eggs cleaned the nest and gave ma hen 6 eggs, put the rest in incubator. so 20 hopefuls.

PUPPY BOWLING TIME!!!!

2016%2B-%2B1
The goat pics/gifs are SO cute. I want goats, but don't have the time to take on anything new, so I'm waiting until work slows down a bit. I'll enjoy vicariously here.

I got those photos of the handsome German New Hampshire boys today - they are 7 months old, quiet, docile, and still living quite well with each other, and SO handsome. I love them. I'm planning to cross the GNHs with the Naked Necks - the GNH pullets I have lay VERY poorly so far at 7 months (I don't need lots of eggs, but I'll need eggs to hatch, for heavens' sake!). I think I'll gain egg production as well as naked necks in the cross. Aren't they handsome?! Can't you imagine how good they'd look with naked necks?! (I named them based on their leg band colors)

Boy Blue (Chunky Monkey the Splash Copper Marans in at the edge):

Joe Black (likes to talk to me when I'm doing chores):

Earl Grey (most promising for breeding - I wish I could have caught him full broadside - he's huge!)

Well, I spent most of the day digging to install my mini orchard (I'm planting apple trees that should do well here, varieties with low to very low chill hours: Anna, Ein Shemer, Fuji, Gala, and Yellow Delicious). I was digging... and digging, and digging, and digging. SO TIRED AND SORE, but I'm not done yet - and I have a small huisache tree to remove and dig out as well, so I'll need to start again first thing in the morning. Took some naproxen, not sure whether it's not working or if I'm just so sore that it just took the edge off. (I really need to get into better shape!)

Dinner was chicken and kale with garlic (SO GOOD). I'm winding down, but may pass out in front of the computer - if so, sleep well all, and

for all veggies and chickies!!!

Hi Fire. What type of roo is Earl Grey. He's handsome. I know the feeling of over doing today. Gosh I'm beat.

Thanks! They are German New Hampshires (New Hampshires re-imported from Germany recently). They are DRASTICALLY different/better than hatchery New Hampshires, which I tried and then eliminated from my flock (except one little hen who lives with the NNs and is Snape's favorite). I got them from Eight Acres Farm. They have great body structure for a meat-type, and they taste very good. So far the pullets don't lay well, but that's not a problem as long as I get enough to hatch later (I didn't get them for eggs). Even if someone didn't want to eat them, they are lovely yard ornaments. Highly recommend them. (Per Luane at Eight Acres, she brought in some of George Jensen's GNHs to add to her line, and sure enough, great production features/structure).

Starting to fade...

They are beautiful! I have always had an interest in the New Hampshire's but recently have branched in to other breeds but would definitely like to have them again. Your Roo is absolutely Gorgeous!
