Suggestions for preschool lessons with baby chicks? Chicks are shipping in one week. Kids are 2 and almost 5. I've got the brooder set up in the garage, with brooder plate and space heater (space heater next to brooder.)

Yes! My boys are 3 & 6. I make both the boys sit down to hold the chicks, with a towel over their lap (poop will happen). I show them how to hold them using two hands, older one does it pretty well by his self so I am free to monitor/help the younger. After a while you explain that the babies need help keeping warm and are getting cold, so we need to put them back under the heat. Fold up towels, wash hands and lay down rules that chicks are only picked up with mommy! Also don't let your kids kiss the chicks. Salmonella and all that.

EDIT: also, if you buy the smallest size crickets or some mealworms at the pet store, it is really fun to watch the chicks chase them around! I usually wait a week so the chicks are a little bigger. It's a lot of fun!

Baby's first doctor visit is tomorrow!

With our 1st baby, it took us about 45-60 min to get out of the house for the 1st time. Her 1st doc appointment was the day after we got home from the hospital. Talk about new parent chaos & calamity. By the time we got her cleaned, fed, burped, dressed, bundled & in the car seat.... she pooped. Start over again! Every parent goes through something like that and it gives us great joy to laugh about now.
