"Smooth" is a relative term. Some people who are used to riding Quarter horses or Thoroughbreds or Arabians might call them smooth; I'm not one of them. It's all a matter of perception & what you like.

I have not ridden a thoroughbred, but I have seen them ridden, it does not seem smooth the way a walker seems to move...

I consider the quarter horse to be a work horse smooth like a truck..

I have ridden arabs..( friend of mine owned them...They is just plumb crazy,)))) I did not see a lot of difference between them and my quarterhorses...
