EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Morning all, didn't take long to catch up on the thread.

I'm taking my lonely chick that had the curled toes to it's new home tonight, will be glad to have it out of my bathroom. As much as I love chicks, having this one single chick has been SO LOUD. Much easier to keep the brooder clean though! HA! Last night I was brushing my teeth and next thing I knew, the little stinker had flown out of the brooder box and was on top of my bathroom counter!

We had nothing but rain all weekend, got nothing done outside like I had hoped.

I'm trying to decide when to do the classroom hatch, the teacher must be eager to do it, she has asked me several times when I want to start! I told her we need to wait until after spring break!

The little chick... I suspect it is not a female. LOL!

I'd bet my last dollar that that little thing is as far from a gal as possible! He has the look of eagles already.

Cute, glad he went to his new home. Why do you want to wait on the classroom hatch?

Why do you say it will be a roo?
lol.. last season we hatched close to 50 roosters.. far greater pullets. But nevertheless... the "Roo Factor" is in the cards. Our farm was SO LOUD! non stop crowing. When a processor finally made a decent
offer, it was so peaceful and quite here it was like soundless. You could hear nothing but country sounds. From dusk til dawn, dozens of roos were calling back & forth and then it was quite.
So now when we hatch it is sorta like a inside joke... another roo..
I have a green card! :celebrate:wee
I had to jump thru hoops to get them. I have to wash dishes and do laundry at the White house for 14 days..
Fourth is - What does he want
I agree with you Whites..

Is that because the brooder will be unattended for a week? Could someone take them in for that duration?

Highly unlikely. A person chasing the chickens would not go unnoticed by the dogs. My chickens aren't friendly, if would take some chasing with a net to catch one. That wouldn't go unnoticed by me our the dogs.
How close by is your neighbors and or roadway?
You are lakefront, but not Gators up there I'm sure.
Wicked this is in Honor to your Avatar!
she wasn't kidding..

Woke up this morning to 4 Roosters in my home.
When I open the door they were all huddled together coming up with a plan for a jail break. I think they were going to stand on each others shoulders and push the lid off and get away!
As soon as I cracked the lid I heard one say.. be cool shhhh.

These are my Canadian back up plan. I just hope my spring hatches are also high hatch ratios as well.

I know for sure it's not a ghost town because I'm missing! LOL! But thank you!

Yes, it is cute, and loud!

I know, right?

Cute, glad he went to his new home. Why do you want to wait on the classroom hatch?

Mostly because of our schedule, we typically go out of town at least a few days during spring break and I wouldn't have anyone to care for them.

Is that because the brooder will be unattended for a week? Could someone take them in for that duration?

What-a-cutie! Pin striped for racing! lol

Mostly because of travels during spring break, and also, the teacher likes to keep them in the classroom until the end of the school year. If they hatch about 2 weeks before school lets out, they don't get too stinky and distracting for their end of year work. Last year they were in there for 3 weeks, and I think we pushed our limits with the cleaning lady.
