EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Quote: I thought about that, also. The comb, while large compared to the vast majority of it's siblings, is smaller than the known cockerels, all of which were hatched within a month of one another ( 5/29 & 7/2). If you can blow it up large enough, I think you'll seen what I mean. I was wrong once before, though, so maybe you're right.

A Marans, isnt she pretty?

@mlm Mike just hatched a few of her babies me thinks! Got pics of babies?
I'll take some current ones.

interesting, how long until maturity for a pig, I know do my own homework right?
cattle panels as in the big bar ones or the TSC ones they make hoop coops out of?
Maturity for eating or breeding. I butchered mine at 6-8 months as soon as they close to 300 (some say 250 but I prefer closer to 300).

Cave time.

They hit sexual maturity at about 6 months (hey they take as long as chickens! :lau) it's best not to breed a gilt (unbred female, like a heifer.) until she is several months older becuase of how big boars can get, there's some breeds where the boar can get upwards of 700 lbs, so you don't want him crush you gilt.

The big bar ones are mostly for cattle and since they're designed for cattle they've got big gaps so not particularly well suited for pigs (though we have down it) the ones they make hoop coops out of are perfect for pigs (being designed to hold them :p) they should come in a few sizes, we have 5x16 and 3x16.
