EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Okay, now I’m freaking out. I’m using a Farm Innovations 4250 that someone lent me and has reported good success with. But I’m recording huge temperature differences within the incubator (on calibrated thermometers). For instance, two glass bulb thermometers placed atop the eggs on the left and right side of the incubator just hours after setting are reporting 100 and 109!! (The machine was set to 99.5 which had more or less held constant while it was running before setting). I dropped the temp in the incubator, but I’m really worried those eggs on the right are already baked. Why on earth is this happening? How can I fix it?

(PS...The fan works, and the unit is in a climate controlled room that stays at 70F.)

My incubator is doing the same thing.... keep the eggs on the outside away from the hot side. The ones that are in the "colder" areas are developing normally. I can't get mine to normalize the temps either, and is spiking to 106 :(

Can you get a pic of your incubator's heater?

48-eggs incubators includes a grid on top cover for stabilyze the temp
I'd add same grid like this

The one I got, you're supposed to put the temp monitor on the floor of the incubator.

Next hatching attempt, I'll look into adding a grid by the heater and placing the temp thing up on the top of the grid instead of the bottom.

Too bad you don't live got closer. I've got four broody hens right now in my Heritage Rhode Island red coop. Too bad neither of you are closer because I don't want any chicks right now

Hi just got some fantastic news I finished testing my herd and everybody that I tested this year the rest of my herd came back CAE negative :yess.
So I just have to deal with my older prize doe that tested borderline so is considered CAE positive, and a positive Saanen.

The dog has a vet appointment tomorrow. Apparently he’s over due on his rabies vaccine. Not that they told me that. I would have gotten him in sooner if they would send me those little reminder cards to tell me it’s time! I happened to look at his collar which is laying on the table next to me.
The tag says 2015. Due to what happened that year, I remember almost everything about it. I can actually tell you that he went to the vet on January 12th. Three days past the expiration of his previous vaccine. So once again he has to get a one-year, and then next year it will last 3-years. Poor pup. He can handle one vaccine per visit. Tomorrow will be 2-3.
