EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I need help. I opened an air sac on an egg I didn’t think was alive and it is. All the membranes are intact. No pip yet. I think it may even be a duck because candling it just doesn’t look fully developed yet. Should I re-cover the air sac with press n seal or something?
Yes. You can do that. ONLY over the hole. Eggs are porous, and need to breathe. Be sure no other birds can get to it, and remove the plastic by lockdown.
Or, you can just leave it. The shell has served its purpose. The membrane will just be more prone to drying out. Be sure you keep an eye on that.

I need to pull some weeds, then start getting the plants in. Maybe today, maybe not.

Back in for lunch. Scraped part of firebreak, loaded neighbors dump trailer half full of junk. Got the chicks from neighborhood feed store. Nice surprise there as it was closer. Lone one is much happier.
Now I need to finish filling trailer.
Still haven’t made it to garden

Speaking of our gardens, I couldn’t figure out how I didn’t have any green peppers sprouting. The reds are already in the ground. I gave it plenty of time in case they had gone too deep when watering. I finally went to see if I had any seeds left.
 I think I forgot to plant any to begin with.
I’ve been accused of switching name tags for seedlings by my brother before. I think the seeds just floated to different bins.

I'm glad you were able to get some chicks much closer. Storms coming through, outdoor work is done for the day, except evening chores. Goats get maaaaaaad if they don't get their grains.

Everything I have growing were digested by swine and growing in pig fecal dirt. We feed our stock tomatoes/cukes/squash/peppers/watermellon/ They eat the fruits/veggies- poop out the seeds and the rain washes the seeds to the fence lines under the hot wires. In the spring we dig them up/poop dirt and all and place them in pots. The tomatoes are so thick and green this year. Like tree trunks. Cukes are growing like mad.
No strawberries this year though.. poop happens.

Inspectors 11 & 12. Inspecting grain every time we bring some home. They are spoiled.. but smart.

It’s getting real dark out not supposed to storm but it sure could. Of course I just put up sunscreens on windows. I’m done also. Didn’t feel too safe on tractor in what looks to be lightning coming. It almost always hits behind our house.
Chick is really liking his Austrolorp buddies.

I’ll get mine on Wednesday. Past on Friday due to friend picking up old hens. That guy is fast. To say he’s handled chickens before would be an understatement. Came out with 5 or 6 at a time.
