It truly is a small world. My mother was born and raised in Pennsylvania. In fact that side of the family has been there since at least the early 1800's. There's even one branch that goes much further back than that cuz oh my the Scandal back then somebody married an Indian.

Where in PA? Do you know?
Mom traced our family back as far as she could 20-30 years ago. She found an Indian woman on Dad's side who was probably a member of a plains tribe, but Mom's records didn't mention her for some reason. Some of her people go back to the 1600's in Scotland & Ireland. A large percentage of them wound up in Ohio. Haven't gotten as much of Dad's side yet. I've recently started trying to flesh out what Mom started; I have her book.

Tell ya what...next time you're up there & happen to have a camera along, snap a couple pictures if you can; I'd be interested in seeing it. It's possible Grandpa went to that same school. 'Course, he only went as far as 4th grade. Maybe see if there's a plaque that gives the date it was built? Don't be going out of your way, but it'd be interesting.
I go right past it when I go to the feed store I'll just have to remember. I go after the 12th of the month or on the 12th so that would be the 16th in February (remind me).

Good luck with it. My mother was born I believe in Westmoreland/Alleghney County, as was her father. Her brother was born in Mount Pleasant. I know that from the records. But I don't no more than a County for sure on Mom.
Some mentions of Greensburg too.
I know my grandmother lived there later. I also know it's near Sally

Allegheny Co. includes Pittsburg. Mt. Pleasant's in Westmoreland Co., 45 miles southeast of Pittsburg. Greensburg is in the Pittsburg metropolitan area, and is the County Seat of Westmoreland Co.

Good ol' Wikipedia :)

That makes sense they'd moved in towards town later when they were older. I remember the farm when I went there as a little child and then when I saw my grandmother when she was old after my second year of college in the house in Greensburg
Well, it wasn't really a farm when I was young but they had land.I remember being out back late one night, and saying here kitty kitty kitty kitty. My dad came up behind me and covered my shoulders and said no honey, that's not a kitty. It was a skunk. :lau

I decided to spend the night in the front yard hammock at my grandparents' farm once when I was a kid. Everything was fine until a breeze got up and the corn field across the road started making noise from the leaves rubbing one another. I got spooked & spent the rest of the night in my bedroom :gig:oops:
