Does anyone else have a story about the recent rise in postage rates?

I went to the USPS website to get a price on shipping a couple cockerels. I entered the weight of 7 lbs. per box, entered the box dimensions, selected express mail for adult fowl shipped from Missouri zip to a Florida zip and the price was $71.05 per bird.
Add to that the $52 I paid for the two shipping boxes. =
That means $194.10 to ship, exclusive of the cost of the two birds.

Bamadude and RonOtt convinced me how much cheaper it was to have a Premier 1 heat plate. It pays for itself in one brooding and it doesn't burn out in the middle of the night.
Otherwise use a two lamp setup using ceramic heat emitters.
A friend brought her new border collie put over and tied him out on a rope tether. 15 minutes later we got a call from up the road where someone found the dog running loose. He chewed through the rope in a heartbeat. Metal cable is essential.

When I was trialing, I made up some stake-outs with chains running through water hose , bolt snaps one both ends; 1 to the collar, 1 to a swivel stake in the ground. The water hose kept the chain from tangling. Worked for horses, as well. I used them when I wasn't carrying enough dogs to warrent using the 20' chain with individual chains for 5 dogs.

I’d just use a chain if it didn’t keep wrapping around his leg. I’ve had a dog break their leg from that.

When Deb was a a little girl, an Amish neighbor gave her a goat. Her father tied it to a cinder block and it could go anywhere on the farm it wanted to drag the cinder block to. At the end of the summer she made $7 at auction. Goats are more expensive now.
