EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Meanwhile I'm trying to figure out if I am dreaming of a white Halloween or not. It spit a few flakes today, but yesterday I had to use the AC in the car.

In other news, I'm trying to figure out when I'll be able to set my own eggs. My oldest pullets are 7 months and have been laying well for 2 months. My oldest cockerel is 5 months. I have never seen him cover any of the ladies, whether the girls that hatched with him and are just waiting for longer daylight to lay, or the girls who have been happily providing since this summer. He crows and looks mature. I don't remember these details from my childhood.

When can I expect fertile eggs?

I would not be surprised if they are already fertile.

I love getting catalogs so, so much.
Seed catalogs were my favorite most of my life.
Sure glad Christmas hasn't become so commercialized! Why don't stores just leave Christmas decorations up year 'round?
Some people do.
I have not been out of the house in three months. I don’t know what I’ll find when I go shopping again.
Perhaps sunlight or fresh air?
Imagine you're getting pretty pale by now.
I may have considered putting up the decorations last night.
Catalog inspiration.
Three definitely developing chicken eggs. If they are all pullets, I’m set!
104F? 1.8F more and it would have been embryo execution.

Open one of the eggs and look for the halo. I'm with phage. They may be fertile now.
The eggs may be getting large enough to incubate. I don't set tiny pullet eggs.
Pullets approaching POL this long after summer solstice sometimes take a long time.
You could add a bit of light to the coop in the morning to kick start the others. Males need photostimulation too.
Your day length is already 3 hours shorter than at summer solstice.
