EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Once upon a time, I called 1-800-DENTIST. They said the closest dentist they recommended was 3 hours away, “but if you have a dentist you like, you can recommend them!” I guess he missed the point of their service.
I have trouble finding plumbers and landscapers (even the ones that caused property damage quit) because I’m out of the way.
In September ‘18, I told my husband that the roof was leaking. He told me who I was allowed to use... then I had to figure out how to pay for it.
The leak didn’t stop, but I couldn’t get the guy to call me back. Magically, no more leak from December ‘18 to two weeks ago when I woke to a stain on my bedroom ceiling. I tried the roofer a few more times, and then today... The leak is close to where it started in the living room, and it’s just awful!
If you are in the U.S., you know about Angie’s List and Home Advisor. I’ve not had good luck with either, but desperation had me contacting everyone this morning. Guess what? No one is nearby or available. :barnie

The chicks are here. :wee I can't get over how cute my lone Burbon Red Turkey is. It's super cute. The Turken, not so much.

Also, sweet I can actually upload again!

I swear these are some of the calmest chicks. Not noise wise. There's a little white bantam (OEGB or Bantam Phoenix) that screams bloody murder when I walk away from the brooder.

I'm excited about a lot of the chicks. What I can ID is 1 Salmon Favrolle :ya ), 1 Welsummer, 1 White Crested Black Polish, 1 Buff Laced Polish, 1 Gold Laced Polish, 1 Mottled Houdan, 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte, 1 White Cochin, 1 either black or barred Cochin, 2 Marans (pretty sure one Is Black Copper and the other is cuckoo) 2 Dominiques.

I think I have a a couple Orps. One I know is a Splash but the other could be blue, splash, or Lav. I'm slightly sure I have BLRW and a Golden Seabright. I'll try to get some individual pics of the ones I'm not so sure about later. Which includes the 2 ducks. I think one is a Mallard, but the other is more brown than black.

I went ahead and ordered more eggs. I desperately need to get a new coop built if I am going to keep more chickens, though. When I had my husband build the one we have now, I told him that I wanted it large enough for 50 chickens-- I said something around 10x20 feet. But he had a friend help him build it, and this friend is one of those people convinced they are an expert in everything. My husband was raised in a culture that respects the opinions of men more than women ( :smack ) so when this guy told my husband that we only need half that amount of space for that many chickens, that's who my husband listened to. The coop is 10x8. It's gotten to the point that I've started investing in some power tools and education, in order to be able to do some projects myself. But I'm not sure I can build a big ol' coop on my own. I wouldn't know where to even start!

I thought my brooder would be fine. It's not. :he It was not meant to handle 27 chicks. The new stationary brooder is much better. I could fit at least 10 more chicks in it.

And now I can't upload again. :hmm

My chicks are always the wildest chicks anyone could imagine.
