EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

If Sally comes back... I posted the spider picture for the Halloween contest like she suggested.

No way to catch up.
I hope you all had a great weekend. I had a great two days of trail riding in the MO Ozarks

Today we went to the natural bridge. It has collapsed a lot in the last few years so you can't walk easily through it, but it is still cool.

that is cool!

I am not at all caught up with this thread - but I did do day 10 candling tonight. Air cells are growing. My hygrometer has not come in... I need to track it down. My humidity has still dropped - but maybe not enough for dark eggs...

Welsummer - day 10

BCM day 10

BCM day 10 - the video did not turn out at all - beautiful to watch dancing.

Easter egger @ day 10 - less vessels compared to day 7 as the chick grows.

BCM - ? Early quitter? I can see a vessel and a blob, but it looks very faint compared to the other eggs. The camera does not capture the vessel. I put this egg back in the incubator.

? another early quitter? I did not see vessels in this egg. Unsure if they are dissolving. This egg was put off to the side where I put my questionables after the day 7 candle. I put this back and will check again at day 14.

@Sally Sunshine here's my update and some questions:

SET ONE:
Local Cream Legbar, day 10. Candled and weighed. They all look great to me, good veins, moving. Air cells look great, weights indicate that I could come down a bit on humidity (Benny and I must be related, see my chart below...

). So I'll bring it down from 40% to 35% (which is indeed what you advised to begin with for blue/green eggs). Per aviagen reference, change in 5% RH can effect a 1% change in weight lost over the 18 day period, and I'm currently on track for 10% loss by Day 18, so that seems right. Despite R-Com's dire warnings that it won't hold RH below ambient, it's now holding nicely at 35% (but only 40% ambient, so not too much of a strain).

Here are some candling images. As I had trouble marking the air cells, I photoed each one instead (no, I won't post them all!

). Good veins, good movement. Getting dark in there. Am I imagining it or are the eggs rocking slightly already?

@Sally Sunshine Next set of Candling Pics. Thought serrated posts might make easier for tagging to the thread.

Day 15 Eggs
Pink Easter Egger
Where Chick can be seen moving

Showing aircell

Bottom

Rotated. This kind of visual (smeared look) has made me think eggs were dead before, never seen candle picks with smears...usually the candle pics have clear veins...I wanted to make sure this was seen to possibly save a future chicks life

The not so great aircell from shipped eggs...slipping down the side. Have multiple like this.

The bottom, still space left
