Question: Can chickens molt in their first year of life? I was told that the two sultans I got were 6-8 months old, but they're molting in full force. They don't seem like they should be molting- i.e. pullet body shape and silky soft feathers.

So feed store today was $95 for 4 bags layer feed and 2 bags starter non medicated 18%. Eggs sales, from last feed purchase, paid $56 of that $95 not bad considering I'm raising 14 meat birds and 13 Altsterier chicks along with the hens laying eggs. And there's food left over from last egg sales. Now if they could keep that up all winter we'll be doing something.

Bought two 10' lengths of Z-bar from Lowes...p/u tomorrow
