EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I'm really woryying with the others
Worry away!
You do realize worrying doesn't help.
There's nothing you can do. It's up to the embryos.
I still think your temps were too high. Unless eggs are extremely small, chicken eggs hatch at 21 days like clockwork.
What brand thermometer do you have?
I've had at least a dozen thermometers of all different brands and types. I've thrown all but 2 away.

Cute
Really?! Wow! I swear this is the first time you have said that! I am soooo shocked! Aren't they on day 29?!

You better get them out!
NOOOOO

I need tool advice. DH was SO IMPRESSED with my recent crafting abilities that he wants me to try making furniture. :barnie How me made that giant leap, I don't know. :hu

Anyway, I've had a few ideas and I need a few tools. Let's say I wanted to line up a row of cut limbs from the firewood stack... Then let's say I wanted to shave the wood to make an even surface that a pane of glass could sit on and make solid contact with. I'd want the limbs to keep most of their shape, not cut in half. So a block plane is what I need?

:gig I was being humorous. I've seen him quoted and responded to all day.

my silkies have hatched around day 20, instead of 21, too.
But those are tiny eggs, not real chicken eggs. Tiny eggs will hatch early because of the small thermal mass.

I see. I haven't been here all day.
I had to drive to Illinois to get my windshield replaced. Took almost 2 hours (3+ with drive time) and $240. They would have come to the house for another $40.

Their temps may have been high too. Low humidity also causes early hatch.
Professionals test their thermometers based on when the eggs hatch.
Most people don't realize how notoriously inaccurate thermometers are.

They are only supposed to be within 2F and that isn't accurate enough for hatching and most don't come close to that. I bought one from an incubator company that was spot on at 75F but 2F off at 99.
For that reason, I never do the ice bath thing for calibration.

IMHO, inaccurate thermometers is the No.1 cause of incubation failure. At least it has been at my house.
