Is that what I need for my intended purpose? I have a feeling I might just have to get it and try.

If I remember right you are working with logs. A draw knife might do what you need quicker. On the same link type draw knife woodworking tools and they have them there. To fine tune it use the planer. Mind you I've never used the draw knife as I've never worked with logs.

your memory is correct.
I just don't want to buy another tool. That is the reason that I have been thinking about logs and log cabins as well as how to get bark off. Adze might be a tool to look at, the previous conversation was about a hazel hoe, which I do own, so far I have not cut off a foot.

I am not a wood worker but take a look at this and see if you need or want :

I looked at those also, but I don't think it's what I need right now. I don't truly know what I need, guess I'll just have to pick something to try.

I can't even find pics of what I'm trying to do. Guess I'm original! i want to shave just a bit at a time, nothing super drastic. I want to keep it artistic, which takes a lot longer. So I'd rather a tool that would need more passes, I guess. Also I'm stronger pushing than pulling. Again, I don't know. I'm the person who jumps in and does it by guts and feelings instead of reading and learning. :hide

I'm far from being an expert woodworker, but my thought is that a block plane, which is designed to shave fairly flat surfaces, should not be the "weapon of choice" for tree limbs, assuming you want to retain the irregular contours of the limbs. Not really sure what you should be using instead; maybe a spoke shave or draw knife?

Are you wanting to fashion furniture with straight pieces, or do you intend to incorporate the irregular shapes of the natural branches?
