I think the cockerels were less effective at protection since they're so young. The ones that were out there are all under 3 months of age. Perhaps if they had been 2 and 3 year old roosters, it would have been different.
My 3+ month old cocks didn't protect their hens when a barn cat started messing with their girls. They just stood there and watched, while my almost 1 year old roo was going NUTS at the fence line, wanting to get to the cat to protect their hen.
He kept looking at the other roosters like they were complete idiots.
@Beer can . Was it you yesterday that said you went to a broker to figure out what you needed to do to get a loan. Is this something I need to be doing?
Did you know that it is much easier to catch and kill a mink by stomping on its head at 10AM while it is killing a chicken in the field, than it is to shoot one at night or catch one in a trap?
This just happened 20 minutes ago and my heart is still pounding.
I'm so glad I was home. I was just about to leave to have my safety inspection done. The birds are usually safe in the middle of the day when they can see threats.
I heard mayhem and thought it was cockerels chasing pullets but I knew immediately it was a mink because squirrels don't chase chickens.
I didn't have time to grab a weapon. I ran out and he had a cockerel down biting it's neck. He didn't care that 2 other cockerels were attacking it nor that I was running up to the scene. I just stepped on it's chest and then on his head when he started biting my boot, after a couple minutes the cockerel I thought was dead got up and ran away.
Then I rearranged my boot and started stomping on his neck. We had 4" of rain yesterday and overnight so the ground was really soft.
I use a Dyson right now. I use to buy bissel but I would keep having to replace them. I have not used that kind though. I know on my Dyson the hair still gets wrapped and I have to cut it out.
I had one of those and it was great for a while. Keep it clean or it will smell awful. DH bought me a shark something ... Tornado maybe? It's smaller and I like it better. Way easier to clean and unclog, also.
I have only a few carpets still. I'm tired of using my shop vac. Especially since I have only one good extension cord. It's so long, it causes its own problems.
I love my Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away. It is easy to clean and it does a great job with all the animal hair in my house (6 cats, 3 dogs, plus mine and my girl's super curly hair that ends up everywhere!).

One of my goats has diarrhea. The inside of their coop is coated. Baby Beaux is green spotted from horn to hoof to tail, which leads me to think it's Roxie. Or he got caught in his own backsplash?
Either way, how much should I be panicking right now...?
if your anything like me, panic and get them some meds.
did you look inside the eyes? how pink inside lids?
and yes read what Kaj has.... I didnt mess around and treated with Sulfadimethoxine 12.5% Oral Solution but gave a vit B shot first and then on the third day and 5th day, Paddler says different but the goat community suggests shots at those times. Also gave some pepto GOAT DRUGS AND DOSAGES http://www.goatworld.com/health/meds/dosages.shtml
Never heard of it.
I considered one. It's the number three choice atm.
Shark is my number two choice.
How do you mean clean? I have only a few carpets still. I'm tired of using my shop vac. Especially since I have only one good extension cord. It's so long, it causes its own problems.
Do you cut the hair out?
My moms is s shark and I have to cut the hair of that one too. What I like about it is if something gets sucked up that will normally blow the belt it switches off until you pull it out. So no belt changes thus far.

The following are notes I took when researching......
NOTE THE KID preventative schedules for those that have wet soil known for cocci issues????
Fortified B Complex-To replace the B vitamins in the rumen 5 mL per 100 pounds of body weight. May be repeated daily, if indicated.
40% Albon [Sulfadimethoxine] and Di-Methox 40%[Sulfadimethoxine] GIVEN ORALLY
The dose is 1cc/5# for 5 days as a treatment dose
1cc per 10# for 5 days for a preventative dose. Repeat every 21 days.
_____________________________________________________________
Treatment for all goats -DiMethox 40% injectable given orally
Dosage- .10 cc per # of body weight 1st day, .5 cc per # for the next 4 days for a total treatment of 5 days.
Dosage-4cc per 100 pounds of body weight once a day till the goat is better
Dosage 10 grams (or two marks) the first time, 5 grams (one mark) 12 hours later. Repeat with 5 grams twice a day till the goat is better.
Preventive against Coccidia.
-DiMethox 40% injectable given orally
Dosage .10 cc per pound of body weight for the first day, .05 cc per pound of body weight for the next fourteen days
-Treat at 3 weeks, 8 weeks, 14 weeks and 6 months of age. Or at any time, the animal is moved to a new place.
Many people often put kids on a preventative medication starting at 3 weeks of age. Give a twice daily 1/2cc ORAL DOSE of 40% Dimethox or a twice daily 1-1/2cc ORAL DOSE of 12/5% Dimethox for 7 days. After that, repeat the dosage only once a week until weaned.
So nothing has changed except their forage yesterday, when they followed me around eating new things. I wormed them the beginning of the month. Sally the med you pictured is an antibiotic?
When I had chickens... I would go outside and hear the coyotes howl all night. They had a den just across the street from the school that lined out back yard. I knew my coop wasn't coyote proof but we got lucky and never had an incident there. It was super nerve wracking. We have a guard dog. Wasn't sure if that is why they never payed attention to our birds.
I'm sure the dog made a huge difference.
My buildings are coyote proof. I've seen the neighbor's malamute/husky crosses lunging at the windows of the coop trying to get in. If these huge high energy behemoths couldn't get in, I don't think a coyote can.

I'm sure. I have 2 small enclosed pens each with a 3 year old rooster that were in the same area. I'm sure they were going nuts but I didn't have time to observe. It is really peaceful out there now.
I didn't know it until I had no other choice.
I remembered that roosters difficult to catch during the day can be just picked up when they are distracted by fighting.
I'm glad it worked. I wasn't about to let it go.
