EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I've sold cockerels and roosters for a fair amount of money on CL.
I sold a Jaerhon cockerel for $25 and a Penedesenca rooster for $35 and they were extras I wasn't going to be breeding. At that price, I knew they weren't buying them for the pot.
I didn't just post a one line ad. I gave a detailed description about the breed and how they were raised. Organic feed, organic pasture, probiotics, etc.. I think that made a huge difference.

I have at least 20 headed there. Just have to select who gets culled first and then find the time.

I just refuse to give birds away that cost me 20 or 30 to raise. I'll eat each last one of them before I let someone else do that.

interesting,,,, seems similar to a menu, the longer the description the higher the price

Good Morning everyone

Was up at 6 AM yesterday to go deer hunting in the "big woods"; 10k acres of prime hunting. Temps weren't bad, 'til the wind got up & tried to blow us of the hillside. It got downright chilly then. I saw 3 ; 2 at a distance through a big bush & the back end of the 3rd one. first two were bucks, I think, which aren't in season ATM. They'd been right on top of my buddy before they got to me.

The real excitement came after I got home. I'd put out a small pile of shelled corn & a piece of mineral block next to the feeder a while back, & wanted to see if there'd been any activity around them. I was heading down the hill from my box blind when I tripped over a vine, and down I went, hard....face first. Sustained a few scratches around the left eye, from the weeds & a screwed up right shoulder. I must've tried to brace myself before I hit. I just laid there for a minute, taking inventory of all my parts to make sure everything was still intact; it was. Even my nose is still straight, which is surprising Shoulder's still ouchy this morning, but I don't guess I broke anything.. 20 years ago it would probably never have happened; getting old is a beach! Dumb Ask!

BTW, corn's all gone, most of the salt's still there, and tracks everywhere. Coons, squirrels & birds got their share, no doubt. Got to get the trail cam set up again to see what's coming in.

Still catching up from yesterday morning; only 300+ posts to go. I'll get there, eventually. and no, I'm not addicted to this thread; not at all. I mean, after all, wouldn't any sane person roll out of a nice warm bed at 4:30 AM to get caught up with the goings-on on a thread full of chickens nuts? Sounds perfectly normal to me.

Any plans today?

HI MIKE!!!
Hi Liz!

I didn't candle last night. This morning (~46 hours internally pipped) they look nearly ready. The one on the left has only shadowy veins, and it's breaking more from the membrane. The one in the right still has a few dark veins, but definite progress. :yesss:

I moved the sixth baby to the brooder. I have a small cereal bowl in there and they all six piled in. :love This might be my new favorite thing.

I candled one of the DIS, now that I know what the yolk looks like, and it was ready. Just didn't make it, poor thing.

Hi guys, I have a question. So the two leghorns that I hatched, I thought were a pair. But now the "girl" is trying to mate and is crowing. What do ya'll think?
