Sounds like she just didn't feel good. How old was she? Are you getting a necropsy?Howdy, Cap, MC, & all the rest of you earlybirds.![]()
Soon as the sun got up good, I was out turning the birds out & taking pictures of my buddy's 81yr. old canoe I listed on CL for him. Have 2 guys interested; one's supposed to come up tomorrow afternoon.
Found one of the 3 layers dead in the coop. I believe she was Tucker's favorite, judging from the scarcity of feathering on her back. She was on the nest last night, right after I closed up, & even let me pet her, which was unlike her. I knew she wasn't broody, 'cause she didn't mind me touching her. Glad I have half a dozen more due to start laying anytime now.
If so, here's 2 labs for you.

Often if you call them, they'll give you a FedEx express label to overnight it. Until then, put it in the refrigerator.
I get to pack up a rooster tomorrow. They'll take packages till 7 PM to get to Columbia Tuesday so I'll probably put 2 ice packs in the box with him and it should be fine.
On the canoe, did you use the website I gave you to ascertain a value?
Ever try CLR? It's for calcium, lime and rust.I cleaned up my bathroom, like with a fine tooth comb, and even bleached the edges of the shower to make sure the red ring that always seems to collect around the edges of the metal shower parts, was gone.
My husband didn't even notice. I asked him if he could tell what I did today, and he said "you were playing outside when I got home from work and you didn't get that chicken wire up on the duck pen......"

It seems like every time I do a lot of work, it isn't noticed because it's underground like a pipe or conduit run.

For cleaning, there's a lot to be said for the cheap and basic. Vinegar, ammonia, alcohol.We/she makes her own cleaning supplies. Same allergic reaction.
I've learned to ask what she did for the day before I come home.![]()
I have a hen named orange 33. That makes her one of the oldest here.Nice- I have a chicken named Emma!
LOL!

OK, 3. Mine would live longer without predation. I had a good laying 6 1/2 year old Ameraucana until she was slaughtered with her flockmates by a mink this summer.Thanks. My good layers historically live about three years, and she was pushing it.
Modern crosses like sex links sometimes peter out early.
According to the ALBC, one of the qualifications of heritage chickens is a Long, productive outdoor lifespan.
Heritage Chicken must have the genetic ability to live a long, vigorous life and thrive in the rigors of pasture-based, outdoor production systems. Breeding hens should be productive for 5-7 years and roosters for 3-5 years.
I miss making apple butter - and eating it. It was a two day affair at our house. The whole extended family and a couple neighbors. Usually about 14 bushels of Jonathan apples. I was the youngest so I manned the peeler on Saturday and everyone else cored and pared them. Start the fire by 5 AM Sunday, hang the copper kettle over it and fill with water. I THINK it was 35 gallons. Then start adding apples and sugar. Once they started cooking down we'd add the spice bag that my aunt made up and wouldn't allow anyone in the kitchen while she did that. The recipe went to the grave with her but I think I can come close to replicating it. The kettle had to be stirred non stop or the copper would burn. I still have the paddle but I don't know who got the kettle. We had fun, alright. Usually about half a dozen of us, all long-time friends. It was an all day job, but the end product was sure good. I miss it.
Extra apples that wouldn't fit in the kettle were cooked down in pots on the stove. Every crock and jar available were filled and covered with sealing wax. We finally got everything sealed right at dusk.
Those symptoms are usually from prolonged pushing on the shell during pipping and hatching.![]()

toes on this one are curled under, the joints have red spots it's not walking well after 2 days I taped the feet any ideas or suggestions where to do next,
I'm reading through the leg and feet problems sally has on the thread, pm's would be ok trying help the little one with all I know how to do and read about
thanks

Was it from a pullet egg? That can be a common problem because the shells are so thick. (just one more reason not to hatch from pullet eggs)
The joints will heal. Keep the feet taped in the proper position and all may go well.
A dehumidifier is the answer. I suggested that to Oz when hatching in the Philippines and it worked great for him.I see, another question for you and all who are in high humidity. Is it even possible to run a dehumidifier inside the house to help with the high levels of humidity?
Similar occupational hazard to carpal tunnel syndrome from assembly line work. Many of my coworkers had CTS surgery, some 3 or 4 times. When I was mowing for the public, and spent a lot of time using a weed whacker, my right hand ( the one right at the engine) would shake like a leaf in a wind storm for an hour or so after I got home. DW always knew when it'd been a heavy weed whacker day; it was all I could do to get the food to my mouth before it vibrated off the spoon.
I think I got off the line just in time but it was coming.
Cry cry cry wail. I think I sprained my fingers!!. And what makes it worse is that I have basketball starting next week. My favorite sport of all time. And I might not be able to play. If I put my hand up and straiten out my fingers, they all go strait except my ring finger, which bends creepily low at the first knuckle....![]()
I hope you heal quickly.
