Not mad, just a tad surprised; never had them take this long. Never had any that were hatched as late as May, though, so that may be the answer.

I'm sure. That's why I like fall hatched chicks. They usually kick in right at 20 weeks. Late spring chicks can go 30 weeks or more. Adding light to the coop for those girls will kick start them in a couple weeks.

I lean more toward the natural way of things when possible. I only hatch replacements when needed, and in the incubator only when I don't have a broody hen. These pullets will lay when nature tells them it's time to lay; I can wait.

My freind there is NOTHING natural in a bird laying 280-330 eggs a yesr!

I was going to mention that. Crazy.

Completely but I did buy a new Christmas light rope to experiment with incubating. Old one only held at 96. But 1/4 of old doesn't light up anymore. I've started many seedlings with that light. $10.00 for 18' of warmth.
