Hi friends.... Been another busy day.
Motor update.... It's all done and ruins like a champ. So my designer can have her Jeep back and my wife can get her car back.
Also today is my 19th birthday.... Sort of..... 19 years ago to the minute i had my bone marrow transplant.... Good thing or i never would have met all you all.....

Ok. Thank you! Should I be concerned about the temp or humidity at this point? I dry incubated without a fan. I am in Florida so hum. Was almost a constant 35% last 18 days.

although, in super hot weather, long sleeves that is light weight knit or cotton, provide sun protection

Me too! Didn't really care much for them two at first, odd. But then they killed and ate that opossum in their chicken coop, butcher all sorts of stuff, they're pretty cool! Loved the wood gas fired truck, dw thought it had to be fake. No, I remember reading yrs ago in a mother earth news that they did that. Researched it. Definitely going to give it a try. Maybe even a wood gas fired generator!

No wood smoke running engines is an old war time technology the finnish ran their tractors that way in WW2

yes, several. This is for my son''s science project, but I've kinda fallen in love with these little eggs and I am freaking out jus a tad. Even kicked him out of his room so I could sleep close to the incubator.

Does anyone have links for sour crop treatment? I've got a customer in BR with a hen on death's door. All I can find are old articles.

I know not to vomit her. Is generic monistat really the best option?

Edit to add: I found the article by Two Crows so I passed that along. He has a vet but it's not a chicken vet. So... :/

The vet will be able to check the crop contents for bacteria and/or yeast. If yeast is found, then he/she will probably prescribe ketoconazole or fluconazole. If bacteria is found, antibiotics. Sometimes both are found, he/she might prescribe both.

Problem is that when birds get sick their digestive tract slows down, and many people assume it's a crop problem and ignore the underlying reason their bird is sick. Another time when one you see a full crop is when the dying process has started, and there's nothing that can be done once it's started.

Tell your customer to have the vet check crop contents and poop for worm eggs, coccidia, bacteria, and yeast. Also suggest that the vet give subcutaneous fluids.

Wanted to update you Kathy: the hen died. I went through my texts and he has had issues since last Tuesday, so for her help came too late. He wasn't happy with how the vet handled it, ie giving antibiotics instead of checking for sour crop. My friend said he has learned to trust his gut (he thought it was sour crop all long) and he's saving all that info for the future. He was also extremely impressed with your prompt and detailed response and wanted me to relay that to you.

He's having some coccidia issues in the coop, diagnosed based on lethargy and odd poops. They've been having trouble with the birds sitting on the waterers. Anyway, everyone else is on the upswing and he called to thank me. So of course I have to thank everyone here, because I certainly didn't learn these things on my own. and thanks to everyone.
