I've had eggs leak just a bit and glued themselves into the egg turner. They never made it.it's not oozing it only leaked a little once
I always move slow on Friday mornings, much to my chickens' chagrin....
Moving a little slow this AM - a little headachy (nothing to justify complaint, just enough to keep me from popping up and moving around quickly). Nursing my coffee in the hopes it gets better before I need to head out for work.
We were supposed to have our first freeze last night, but it never materialized - only got down to 35F per my ...
There's an old expression. 'Don't count your chickens before they hatch'. Truer words were never spoken.![]()
I am so upset![]()
It is disturbing when one opens a live embryo. I've been there. That eye looking at you is haunting.I cracked it open and nothing was wrong yolk was perfect yellow and baby was kicking and blood vessels where big andeal red very healthy looking.

Could you post a link to the thread?I am unsure. The vet that started the thread, Kathy, and others are discussing it on the thread. I am just following along and learning.
If it isn't 10 in the shop, you could do that now. I've brooded chicks in an unheated, uninsulated building when it was 10 outside and 20 in the building.Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
Yeah I know, firing up the Brinsea is tempting but it's 10 degrees here this morning and brooding chicks in the house with 5 cats roaming around isn't the easiest thing to do. I promised DH I'd wait till it was warm enough to set up the stock tank in our shop as a brooder. That means March here since the shop is unheated. Yeah, it's tough. I did a dry run with it when it arrived and it was holding the temp at 99.5 confirmed. I have to check it with the humidity monitory I just picked up on fleaBay but I'm not expecting a problem with that.
@Sally Sunshine officially I'm a Bex
The difference in policing from country to country is amazing.One of the reasons way you have to much excessive police force used in the US.

its useless if you have an infestation, but fine in dustbaths to help preventHi yall can u give this to chickens because mine got lice
Awesome!! What a great guy! and WELCOME!!!Hi everyone. My wonderful darling husband who's favorite question to me these days is " So how many chickens do you plan on having when all is said and done?" presented me with an early Christmas gift of a Brinsea Mini Eco incubator. Yep, he's a great guy.
I'm not planning to break it in till March when I plant to incubate 7 or 8 of my Buff O/Welsummer eggs to give to an Amish neighbor who gave me 8 eggs in September to stick under my broody hen some pullets and a cockerel or two. His flock is mainly OEGB and bantam Cochin crosses. He needs meat birds so I plan to give him a start of birds that will provide his family with meat and eggs.
So I have been hanging around reading the great information about incubating (so much great information to absorb. I think my brains hurt from all of it) and plan to drop in from time to time if y'all don't mind.
@runt325
i wouldntcan u feed it to chickens
since when?I wasn't going to mention that, 'cause I'm not one to say "I told you so"![]()
eggs are porous things get in the same way water molecules get outwhy u say that
ROFL!!!!!This late at night and as cold as it is nothing stronger than hot cocoa. Summer is a whole nother kettle of fish. LOL
As for lice, I use Ivermectin pour on for cattle believe it or not. My birds are pretty good sized so I put 5 drops under a wing and it's done. I do it at night with a flashlight. Lot less hassle.
DH told me if I could find a reasonably priced Brinsea he would get it for me. That was all it took for me to set out on a quest. Believe it or not, I found it on the Brinsea site. It was a demo. Full warranty. I think it was something like 50 dollars off regular price. I showed it to him never thinking he would really get it for me but he did. It should suit my needs nicely. I had thought about a Hova Bator but really didn't really want to hatch that many eggs at once, especially when I usually I have a couple three broody Buff Orpinton hens every summer. Since I'm retired I really don't mind doing the turning myself.
I just have one question. Why don't they include a free prescription for Xanax with every purchase? I have 5 years experience as an OB nurse, but when one of my hens is sitting on a bunch of eggs, I'm a wreck. I can just imagine what I will be like when the incubator is fired up.
They used to but people complained it wasn't strong enough.![]()
Congrats!!Almost. I got all the parts to finish my bator!!!
i have an extra!! how about an old shovel??I always answer "Harley Davidson" when someone asks me if I need anything.
lol, darn those cute little 4HersThanks. With these three selling I have paid for the does, and will only have to pay myself fifty bucks for keeping the extra doelingI would rather have kept Ruby's daughter, but the young 4H girls are likely going to talk me into letting them have her. It seems they have one that looks like the light headed doe so their mom is pushing for the darker headed one while each girl likes one or the other. I really want the darker headed doe simply because her dam is the crazier one I may need to sell and wanted to handle the daughter. I guess I will cross my fingers for another doe if I am a push over.![]()
Good night everyone. I seem to have fallen asleep in my chair again. Off to real bed. Sleep well.
Bacteria thrive in a warm moist environment. They have a way to get into the egg via the cracks. The egg has no defenses against bad stuff getting in to it because it is cracked.
LOL@DwayneNLiz , hung a dead chicken from the dogs neck once....I was the fool cause the dog ate it.![]()
