Nothing here yet. The last couple storms blew right past without dropping a flake.1st snow of the season here overnight. Just a light dusting, not even close to being measurable, but it's still snow,
O.K.,Mother Nature, you've made your point. That's enough snow for this season; you can go back to wherever you come from now
It snowed when I was stationed at Fort Polk. Everyone freaked out. I, along with other soldiers from the north were recruited to drive the civilians home and pick them up the next morning. It was about a half inch of slush.Morning y'all.![]()
For those of you who say "but does it ever get that cold in louisiana?" The answer is YES. We've had two days of lows in the high 20s. Somehow, because LA I guess, we were under flood AND freeze warnings at the same time. DH took pity on me and turned the heat all the way up to 65.![]()

Me toowhat are some alternative methods of disinfecting your incubator for the first time? I read the "Notes" section however I do not utilize bleach or other chemicals in my home. I am an advocate for more natural remedies, I utilize Melaleuca products in my home for cleaning. Could ACV w/mother be used, or garlic and lemon peel?
In college I lived in Ruston. I went to Monroe with friends for valentines day. It was very late when we were driving home and it began to snow. We had to all pull over and switch drivers (in a weird coincidence, one of the guys in the group lived in Kentucky at the same time I did because our parents were at the same seminary. He was also louisiana born). He and I drove the rest of the way. The roads were too warm for the snow to stick, but they were the fat slushy flakes and the other drivers just couldn't see. I felt like a king driving the speed limit past all the people crawling along the shoulder. I do remember my first time driving in wintry mix by myself. I was 17 and thought the world was ending. That would be me.Nothing here yet. The last couple storms blew right past without dropping a flake.1st snow of the season here overnight. Quote: Yeah, that's my problem as well - I get so used to the hot, I forget about the cold until it's here. You'd think I'd learn, but every year, it's like, "OMG, it's so cold!!!"![]()
I mean, I went to school in New England, for heavens' sake!!!!
(Of course, when summer rolls back around again, I'll be like, "OMG, it's so hot!!!")![]()
Oh my - an enabler IN THE FLESH, in your own home. You're in trouble - you'll be overrun with chicks in no time...Morning everyone.![]()
Suns shinning and plants to plant.
So the wife asked me when the NY Hal started and what I was hatching. Told her it was today and that I wasn't hatching. She said, but her hair dresser wants some of the NN chicks when I hatch. Soooo.....maybe today. Also told her that it would require me to hatch inside using part of her sewing room. She was fine with that just don't raise them there.![]()

Meanwhile, the person renting the older house on my property found a house of her own and moved out. (Weird property - two houses 10 feet apart. I live in the smaller, nice one.) Kitchen and dining area has a completely tiled floor with nice big window facing the back yard. Guess where I'll be brooding all my chicks this year!!! (Seed-starting too, I'm thinking... and maybe a workshop...) Incubating will still be in the house, I need to be able to hear the hum of the incubator and stare at the eggies.![]()
The house needs to be totally remodeled one day, has had several generations worth of folks with 5+ large dogs indoors before I got it, etc. (including the most recent friend living there, actually), so although it is fine to live in, its not particularly... NICE. And it doesn't seem like that big of a step to turn it into the "garage/barn" that I don't have and desperately need...![]()
The carpet in the other rooms is gross - I really need to rip it out. As if I really need any more projects...![]()

Styrofoam is tough. If it is brand new, I'd probably use a little vinegar or alcohol.Forgot to say the inside is Styrofoam and has a plastic outer shell! Anything special I need to be weary of whilst cleaning?
That's funny. That was the same type of snow as when I drove the lady home. I can't remember if she lived in Deridder or Leesville. It was 45 years ago.In college I lived in Ruston.
