When I looked it up, there were some pretty brutal insults using retromingent that I may keep in mind...

I make two little holes in the egg and make them bigger with a pointy grinding bit from the dremel (I don't use the dremel itself). I stick a bread tie in the hole and swirl it around to break the yolk and albumen. Then blow! I use the insides for scrambled eggs. Fill the egg with water, shake, and blow again! Then it's all done.

I actually use the Dremel tool itself, on about 10 - 15,000 speed. Works well. The Chicken Chick has some nice instructions. She recommends microwaving it afterwards for about a minute (in 10 second bursts) to sterilize.

Yup, gotta agree there. @Ladyfarm , you will be tempted to "help" if nothing happens after pipping. The urge will be nearly uncontrollable. Just sit on your hands - come on here if you want to be distracted or talked out of messing with them. They do best when left alone. (The notes do suggest when it's time to help, of course - some people don't ever help, though.)

Speaking of hatching... Look what we have here! Seems like someone is saving GNH eggs out of Tank's coop now that I've gotten two eggs two days in a row...




Pullet eggs or not, if I'm not careful, these might fall into the incubator...

Thanks all for your replies earlier!
Air bubbles are looking okay so far, So on the 19th day for the first egg I'll go into lock down. Hopefully it isn't in a hurry!

This Saturday I have jap quail going into lockdown, and then directly after I have the orpingtons! It's nice and busy hatching wise and I love it!
