I haven't seen black cats here in years.

There used to be one roaming around here but he got caught in a trap.
I can't imagine what became of him.

More than stinky, mephitic specifically means poisonous, toxic and foul-smelling. REALLY stinky. The latin name for the skunk is Mephitis mephitis...

When I looked it up, there were some pretty brutal insults using retromingent that I may keep in mind...

9 of the 15 eggs I set a couple days ago were pullet eggs but they weren't pullet size. They were all larger than the hen's eggs I set with them. Smallest was 65 grams.
I was tempted to set her first eggs that started about a month or so ago. The first I opened was fertile and she hasn't laid an egg smaller than 60 grams since she started.

it is like a roller coaster................the old kind............click, click, click as you near the top everything disappears and the people in front of you are screaming............incubators are like that

I quit being anxious. Sometimes I don't even look at the incubator for a day or 2. If they hatch, they hatch. If they don't, they don't.

I'm trying! Learning a whole new level of patience. My temps go down slightly, maybe 1/2 a degree and my humidity goes down to about 60%. I have to add water every morning through the vent hole.

Patience is a virtue - and I want it now!

It's summer here in Australia. Starting to warm up a heap!! 32°C yesterday and that's mild. We will get up to 40°C+ in the middle of summer!

Sally, I'm 100 posts behind 'cause I was bowling tonight, so this may already be resolved. If it were me, I'd try to find someone with a portable saw mill. You wouldn't have to take your trees anywhere; the mill would come to you. Put an ad on CL...see what happens.

I was 250 behind. I went out to shoot pool last night. Wife had a colonoscopy this morning and couldn't eat yesterday so she only wanted to sleep.
She gets cranky if she doesn't eat regularly.

I just went back to the old thread to look something up, and saw my posts form when I was hatching for the first time. I was a total pest nutcase.

You are remarkably sane compared to me.

(I'll probably be a nutcase again this year. Seems to be my lot in life...)

I never incubated (successfully) till 6 or 7 years ago.

Incubator is underneath humming away. (It's humidity is low I know

) It's been high lately because of the ambient humidity due to it being very hot and rainy here so I'm keeping it down for a while, bumping it up later.

Both are connected to a UPS, nothing is going to stop me (ง'̀-'́)ง

Having a separate hatcher is wonderful. Makes staggered hatches so simple.
The big cabinet I built has a separate hatcher unit in the bottom.

Actually, I am. I was in the blind most of yesterday, some this morning, and plan to be there all tomorrow with my crossbow. I'll pretty much live there during muzzleloader, 'til I bust one or don't

It's a good pastime.

You've gotten deep into advanced chicken math, haven't you?!

I had chickens a long time before anyone knew. This time around I wanted 6 and came home with 10. Three months later, I had 100.
After my nearly year long battle to keep them I had to get a permit which allowed me to keep what I had at the time the ordinance went into effect plus 10%.
When I applied for the permit I told them I had 85 and 5 roosters. I should have pushed it a little further but was afraid to since the thing that got me into hot water in the first place was that they claimed I had a poultry farm.

The Sumatra is the little one of all species only 500-800 kg.
Indeed people can" fall in between cherries " as we say here, and this is exactly way we do this evaluation cessions, to reduce that to the possible minimum.

In some of our adult education classes for electricians to teach new automation processors they would pair a person that was really good with automation with someone 'challenged'. It didn't work well. The challenged person would get lost right off the bat and was too intimidated to ask questions.
I had to work with those challenged persons and they were no help.
When I became an instructor, I changed that. I made sure they all got it before we moved on.

I still suck, but we won all 4 (1 for each game won, plus overall pinfall for 3 games). We were in 1st place 'til last week, when we dropped to 2nd, then came back last night to gain a tie in the standings, with a week to go in the 1st half. At the end of the season, the winner of the 1st half will play the winner of the 2nd half to determine the overall 1st place winner of the season.

This is the worst season, average-wise, that I've ever had, since I began league play back in the early 60's (64, I think, maybe '65. Met future DW there, we were engaged for a while, got married in '66). I think I carried a 105 back then, & topped out at 121. Now I'm struggling to maintain 100. Very frustrating.

Last season was my first in a league. We won the whole thing. This season we suck. We're in last place and I don't think we can win enough to make the playoffs. However last week we beat the best team in the league, knocking them out of first. I thought we were back to our old ways because we were down 1-3 after the first round. But we went 8-2 the rest of the night.

They're pricey for one that will generate heat for any significant amount of time. Their original goal was to keep a computer running long enough so software could save all work and safely power down the computer. That was about 10-20 minutes.
The size of the batteries in them determines the price and how long they provide power.

I could be wrong because I haven't researched them in a long time but I use a couple for computers, mostly because they provide better filtered power and surge suppression.

A few years ago I did a big installation on a truly off the grid house on a mountain top overlooking the Bourbeuse river outside of St. Clair MO. It was for an elderly couple (read that as even older than me) from Chicago on a new house and pole barn. We installed a windmill and huge photovoltaic array for electric with a backup diesel generator. Also solar thermal and solar hot water systems with a wood fired furnace. Some amazing electronics in the basement.
Trouble is if the river floods they can't leave. The steep switchback road up to the house leaves the county road right at the river. Several days on the job we had to put all our gear in a bucket loader on a tractor to drive through 3 feet of water making about a dozen trips. It was cold as hell too.
That was a little extreme. To each his own.

Hi! No, no dogs. They require time, training, and attention to keep them happy and not destructive. I have no time, and what little I have I would rather be riding. Besides five days a week for twelve to fifteen hours a day I am not available.

Aww okay, So the newbies wouldn't be okay even with the 14 day olds?

It matters not in the end, I bought one of those triangle rabbit hutches on eBay for $49 yesterday, and will put the adult quail into that to make room for the new babies.

Just going off of what size they are when they hatch. I don't have quail nor have ever hatched any.
