EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

In case anyone lives in doubt that the yard is full of critters we can't see at night, here's an empty feed pan that was apparently of interest to a 'coon:

(Hence, my coops are built like fortresses...)

@Fire Ant Farm I hope it is a brief flare up, and you feel better soon. Thanks for the well wishes, lots of early wrecks due to freezing drizzle and bridges. It cleared up after a couple of hours. We are supposed to get more tomorrow afternoon and really cold temperatures through Monday.

@kwhites634 Since you are still out did you get a deer?

Hi CC and Banti.
Nope. Gotta see one to get one.

:drool Maple syrup candy is delicious.

Eating your own home grown chicken is the best way to go. Better then anything you could ever buy in a store.

It truly is! The young ones tasted the best. I made a great dijonnaise rub for them and it was glorious, that paired with some roasted veggies and a nice bottle of moscato

Perfection.

On Monday I'm off to town to go help my grandfather process a few ducks so that should be a busy day. But the plucker takes a lot of the work out so that's handy :)

I have something that I'm wondering if anyone has some advice for..

Got a couple Buff Orpington eggs in the bator with 5 days til lockdown. But I have been struggling with humidity due to it being summer and sporadic at that. So surrounding humidity has been hard, and I've been out a lot so I haven't been able to keep an eye on the eggs much.

Humidity has definitely been too high though because the air sacs are not were I'd normally expect them to be. I'm just wondering if in the 5 day leading up to lockdown is enough to get it back under control or not? I'm trying to keep it as low as possible right now, all the while contemplating doing a "dry" hatch next time. I heard a sock full of rice helps?

Thanks :)

Yes, rice will help. Yes, it will get a little better.
Just remember that a dry hatch isn't no humility.

Wonderful!

Nice dog, yours?

Hello Pensmaster! Happy birthday to your Dad, enjoy the family visit!
I hope you are about done with that cold/flu.

Sorry you are sick.

Drive safely, looking forward to pics.

LOL. I sprayed someone in the face with the dogs kennel cough stuff before.

I hatched marans and OE together not so long ago.

No, not my dog. Would love to have one like it though.

Oh thanks! I put a sock of rice in and that's helped a lot :) Yeah I've been reading a little bit on it, you have to have some water. It'd be so nice if all you had to do is keep them warm hahaha
