this rooster lost his tips back in 2012/2013. He was sore a while but is otherwise healthy and unharmed. Been breeding with him off and on for 3 years now and still doing his job.

Quite a few of my roosters I've had in the past lose their tips or wattles. They've always been just fine afterwards.
(Only when it gets down to -25 and they have wet wattles/combs. I don't have ventilation issues, believe me...)

mine were all lost below 0 in wet conditions too. I've got a free ranger who has been outside since he hatched. Never been able to catch him till recently. He is from 2011 or 2012. He's slept in -25 and colder through the sleet and the snow. His comb is about the third of the size it used to be.
