EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Chrissy ate a bit more.

I've been getting her to eat by coating my finger in crumbles. When she bites my finger, she gets a mouthful of crumbles.....
Congrats! Though that's an interesting habit you're encouraging...

I have an early hatcher! Meet Tiny, the early bird

A couple other eggs are pipped internally but no other external pips so Tiny is out here bonding with me. She hatched from the tiniest little pullet egg in the hatcher lol.

Awwwwwww..... So cute!

It happens so fast - I'll be doing my Day 10 candle right when I get home. I'll have to start getting the brooder together toot sweet!!!

Working on the computer right now thinking through potential gravity (bucket) fed automatic waterers with alternating cups and horizontal nipples. I gotta try something different than those crazy big hanging bell waterers - I'm going to seriously pull a muscle one day, my back can't handle that long term...

Just think.. I'll have a duck that pulls my finger! :lau I actually did that to my run this summer- seemed to work fine.

Yeah. I can't believe I'm almost half way there. :th :fl I already have a brooder (and a back up brooder....) all I have to do is add bedding, food and water.

Problem: Birds easily flying over 4' fence surrounding their yard; roughly 12'x12'
Wanting to cover it somehow, but want to be able to walk upright (at least in the center), & don't want snow load to gather.

Suggestions?

:idunno No help from me.... My birds are angels and never fly out- Mostly.

I bet if you enlarged the run they'd be more willing to stay in, if that's possible.... 12' x 12' is rather tiny.

Build the run up higher? Add a steep peaked roof over it so you only have to duck when you go in and can stand up straight in the middle? Lol
