So, um, am I alone in having strict no-chicken shoes and doing the whole biosecurity Virton-for-disinfecting-shoes thing?

I'm a little confused about the slippers but yeah, I'm with you on everything else lol

I'm pretty sure I was in my slippers when I saw a hawk overhead and ran out....

I'm not too terribly strict on biosecurity- Everyone and their cousin owns chickens here, so everyone has the same disease set. <<Sigh>>

Even if you start with a clean flock, a bird flies into your run, stray roosters come over, or the wind blows, and BOOM you've got illness in your flock. I only clean shoes/change clothes if going to someone else's flock that's not local.

I have guests wear booties, especially during hatching time. My birds are on raised platforms in a barn (show birds) so they never touch the floor where guests walk. breeders are all in secure pens.

Layers. Free range and do not have direct contact with breeders or show birds. But wild birds, squirrels and who knows what can spread something.

I have sterile incubators and hatchers and each egg is disinfected in a bleach solution before going into incubator. I try to make sure no egg hatches in anything but the hatcher.., which has 5 trays to keep breeds separated.

So I do have some biosecurity. I have the signs up and get very vocal with people that completely ignore them like salesman and the meter readers. I worry about fedex, ups and meter readers bringing me a bug
