Soooo, everybody that doesn't agree with you calls you Ralphie?
That's what earplugs are for.... I've had too many years of construction ...
Look great. I want some.
I used to also but when I got more serious, I started only giving 24 hours of light for the first 3 or 4 days at the most. Now I give them 8 hours of dark every night. A hemeral lighting approach allows them a resting period.I raised ALL MY chicks successfully under light bulb , they sleep tremendously good unde it! No problem AT ALL!
And l think, that YOU think, that you are their mom......

Since I've been adding a probiotic powder to chicks first water about 3 years ago, I haven't had a case of pasted vent since.Nothing, actually... Just kept picking it off, and today there was no more. I did, however, turn down the heat on the heating pad, so maybe that was it??
It was at a high setting, coz it's cold in here.
The local channel says we have 7 days of rain coming starting tonight. It's Supposed to be warmer this week. Will probably end up with a bunch more unneeded rain.
Taking water to 5 coops 3 times a day the last week was a real time eater.Good Morning all.
It would be nice if we could have a little snow with this crazy cold weather! I don't think I have EVER had to take water down to the coops before because of the water being frozen...until this morning.
That too.Yes high temp is certainly a reason!
Free is good.I don't know if this has been asked on here yet, too much to read through! But I searched and can't find anything on it...The question I have is, has anyone tried to use a space heater fan/heating element set up in their homemade incubator? It's one of those metal heaters you get from Walmart for $17, the fan blows past heated springs. My husband said the thermostat is shot on it, but he thinks he can make it work with a wafer thermostat (the one Sally Sunshine suggested using). I am making an incubator from a wooden box I have completely lined with 2" styrofoam. We will put the fan beside the egg shelf, so the fan will blow towards the front and the air will circulate past the heated springs, over the eggs and back around to the back before going back in the fan.
What do you all think? Please help, cannot find anyone using anything but light bulbs! Though I certainly have not ruled that out, and don't have a problem with it, but the heater is free.![]()
I found the UTC to cause larger temperature swings.Cool, I'm leaning towards that or similar element. Not sure why just not a fan of the light bulb. Time to head to amazon and figure out the difference between the UTC and STC 1000. I have a STC-1000 that I hooked up to my LG styro.
500 watts is pretty big.I've got one of each. The STC got replaced by a wafer but so far no problems with the UTC. Depending on the size of the bator you might need a bigger element. The bator that element is in is fairly small.
Um, I'll take my hamburger from a farm instead of a laboratory, thanks muchly...

Just cause one can see numbers with the digital ones, doesn't mean those numbers are accurate.I've looked at the wafers and considered that route, just seems like there's more control with the digital. I think it comes down to what you are used to and comfortable with. Once I got the STC figured out it works like a champ as long as I do my part and plug it in correctly.![]()
I think that with 24 Sermas you can get a nice pot!
We are 0.0043% (22,000sqKM/510,000,000sqKM) of the earths surface, and we have 511 BIRDS SPECIES! including migratory ones.

I missed the part about the 24.
Mel. spoke about a lady that brought 24 Sermma to a poultry exhibition, and the judge told the lady that they were good only for the soup pot! And frome that post all the discussion of sermmas as food developed.
