Yuck, that stinks. We have one just like that at the moment but it's in the run. We're going to fix it right this spring when we redo the leaky roof.

I give my hens all year long artificial light! They get light till 23:30 every day.this benefits them in severl way.
1. Reducing their stress in winter.
2. Make them molt in a very lightly = they dont loos more then 10%
3. They lay all year long!
And yes the Endocrin (=hormonal) system is HUGELY influenced from the photoperioa =the light length in a 24 hour so it is more then sure that the fertility of your roos is influenced from it!
Do what works best for you! I am tempted to try them. up til this hatch I have going currently, i haven't even labeled my eggs as to who they came from. I cant watch the bator-its nerve racking for me so unless i see them pip and zip when i do check, I never which chick came from which egg. got a suggestion-just waiting to see if their idea will work for me....Thank you guys for the congratulations! I had quite a bit of backlash on another chicken group about using the hatching bags! I was amazed more didn't know about them. Got a lot of people asking about how the work etc. And lots of kudos for using them as well, I am not sure if I'll use them next time. We shall see
