EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

hey rumor has it ya got some chicks!!! ;)

You mean these sweet hearts that came today? 5 Ayam Cemani babies :) Well, technically they're 8 weeks old but still! They've joined some of my other babies around the same age. The bigger black one is Onyx. I hatched him and he's 2 weeks older than the ones that came today.

Never thought of either of those......duhhhhh.
Thanks.

I bought this one from TSC a few years ago 'cause the original, from somewhere else, also had a poly tub with a busted-out bottom from tossing firewood into it in cold weather. This one was thicker, & supposedly more durable. Yeah, right! Naturally, TSC doesn't sell replacement tubs for it. However, while I was on TSC's site, I read all the reviews on this thing. Without fail, every reviewer that used it to haul firewood had busted the bottom out of it.

If anyone wants the particulars, PM me.

No problem we spent our lunch hour shopping for wheelbarrows when the thought hit him. The landscaping crew he had at his house "borrowed" his good wheelbarrow. When he called them on it they brought him a plastic one, second call got him a new metal one that they got from their landscape supply. Grainger might have one as well.

Mine are really mellow like that as well. I'm sure it's because we are AWESOME chickie parents...  :thumbsup

:gig

That's nothing, you should see me putting together a wish list for Greenfire chicks!

(Yes, ok, I've been looking at real estate listings for more land south of San Antonio as well, soooooo...  )

Off to go check that out... :D

I know right Penn!! With my luck lately I'm surprised it didn't behead me!!! :gig  Just heard more thunder and saw the lightening...

Were supposed to have had lightning and thunder for the past two nights. Nothing however bad winds and lots of rain. That's why their tree came down ground is saturated.

Might want to wear a hard hat out there. :lau

What is the humidity and how are you reading it?
Maybe the hygrometer is uncalibrated.
If you have pans of water in there you should be able to get it up. Especially if you place sponges in the water to increase the surface area.
I'm lucky to maintain 30% RH with multiple calibrated hygros...fine until I need to hatch. I may move everything to the basement but it's alot cooler

.

I keep mine in the basement and it is just fine.
The heater will keep the bator at temp so the outside temp is less important esp. If it does not fluctuate too much.

Also I run hatches at about 30% until they pip, and then raise it. That usually requires placing a diaper soaked in water on the lower shelf as a large surface area for evaporation.
Running hatches a bit dry has eliminated "drowned in shell" chicks on hatch day.
