EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

ANTY!!! I missed your post, I hatch all of mine upright, Do you lay yours down?

I think I get a better hatch rate upright.

I hatch laying down - this was just a group of eggs that went through a horrific trip thanks to the post office, lots of huge saddled mobile air cells. Still did not so bad - got 8 eggs out of 12 in lock down (more than that quit early, though).

Looks like I'll have to turn manually. How many times a day should I "turn" them in the cartons?

Three times (five is better, but is usually hard to do, and most folks do fine with three). What ever you do, turn an odd number of times a day, though - so the "long" period (overnight) is on a different side each day.

Nice @Fire Ant Farm that's one thing that scares me about shipped eggs, the turner in the Hova I have rolls the eggs on their sides. Guess if I get shipped eggs I will have to do the same by hand with egg carton. Super cute that naked neck coming out the top :-)

Quote: Awesome, thanks so much for your help. I'm sure I'll be back again asking more questions.
