EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Sally, my brother, brother in law and I did some figuring the other day and it only costs about a dollar a month to run my bator.
Are you using wood heat for your incubator that it only costs $1 a month? Are did you put have a problem with decimal places?
The only way it would cost $1 is if it is in a very warm room and is running on 40W.

Lockdown tonight or tomorrow, depends if there's drawdown or not.... Imma go insane if I have to leave them, I sure hope they hatch before I gotta go!!
I have 15 eggs I put in pedigree bags this morning. I hear them peeping. They are due in 17 hours and I just went in to turn the eggs that are due next week.

So, sounds like a good time for a stupid question.

Anyone have any data on heat output of a regular incandescent bulb compared to a heat lamp?

Example, I did a test run on the huge display fridge. A 250 heat lamp gave me a consistent temp of 97*. I know I need a bit more but am curious if a heat lamp is the way to go or what it would compare to for regular bulb or actually bulbs since I would prefer more than 1.

Note--this was a very basic mock up with a heat lamp laying in the bottom and the thermo out of direct line sight. no fans and nothing fancy just trying to get an idea of what I would be looking at wattage wise.
Don't use infrared heat lamps for incubation. You'll be disappointed.
With an incandescent lamp, they generate heat which will generally be ambient in the container.
Infrared will heat what it is aimed at. That means that what it is aimed at will be way too hot and other parts will be various degrees cooler.
Depending on the size of your incubator, you shouldn't need anything close to 250W unless it is a huge cabinet.
Keep in mind, a LG incubator uses a 40W metallic heat element.

dang that didnt work!!

The cost of LED has dropped dramatically since this chart.

Anyone see the Cemanis on the 24 hours thread? They are really calling my name but I don't "NEED" them right now.

Stay away from anything you don't "NEED" right now.
