EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

So, sounds like a good time for a stupid question.

Anyone have any data on heat output of a regular incandescent bulb compared to a heat lamp?

Example, I did a test run on the huge display fridge. A 250 heat lamp gave me a consistent temp of 97*. I know I need a bit more but am curious if a heat lamp is the way to go or what it would compare to for regular bulb or actually bulbs since I would prefer more than 1.

Note--this was a very basic mock up with a heat lamp laying in the bottom and the thermo out of direct line sight. no fans and nothing fancy just trying to get an idea of what I would be looking at wattage wise.

It shows 34 degrees it's been 14 minutes in the ice water
That's why I don't use Accu-Rites for incubating.
I don't have the time or energy for that hassle.

Help! What is wrong? It was malpositioned all the way at the other end. I had to assist it most of the hatch. It's very weak, hardly moving. It's chirping every once in a while. Is the bump by the eye just swollen from being in the egg for so long? Or a birth defect? What do I do?
As for what happened, look through this.

As for what to do, put it back in the incubator or brooder and hope it recovers.

Do you have vitamins like Poly-Vi-Sol without iron or Nutri-Drench?

20 minutes and it still shows 34 now what do I do
Buy a good one or just subtract 2F from all readings.

I'd say either it's 2 degrees off or your water has warmed up. If it never went below 34 degrees then it's off by 2* so just remember that when you're adjusting your bator.
X2

but u can calibrate it
Is it calibratable or do you just need to remember it is off by 2 degrees?
I never saw a calibratable AccuRite.

@ChickenCanoe
I think I already answered that one.

In response to where white's tagged you, yes you did answer and I thank you. My editor is messed up and it won't let me highlight at the moment.

oh sweets  good luck!!!  wait did I already say that once or twice?

really?  I need to hit the store up and see whats going on after all these years!!

no I think they are purchasing a donkey CH  or trading one or ummm something...

There's a few out. Was it Jimmie Johnson the race car driver that used to run shine when he was young? He has one called 'Midnight Moon'. I've had the real uncut stuff truck driver from TN used to bring it up where I work. The stuff in stores is usually cut to 80proof, taste the same, good stuff.

I would try black chicken but not what I was thinking. Thanks for the source I may have to look into it.

Taste like chicken, just looks weird Lol! :-D
