EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Hi everyone! I had an incubator failure. One egg hatched at 76 degrees and the inside of it's shell is coated with blood. I moved everything to another incubator I was running. 4 more have hatched, but I'm not home to check the shells. All 5 chicks are moving around, so I guess that cold chick is still alive.

Was the cold bator the reas on there was so much blood in the shell? What should I look for in the chick?
@ChickenCanoe ??? Had a really good link for my incubation issues. maybe he can help

My goat tried to eat me, and Star hitched a ride.

1) Hysterical photo!!!!
2) Awwwww.... So this is one of the huggable ones?

Puppy was out again today, and kept me company while I repotted tomatoes, coming to check on me then wandering off again. The hawks have been out hunting this weekend (I'm so grateful for the "rooster alarm network" - seven of them, all watching the skies, and the first one who sees one alarms for the whole yard, then they all alarm and and all run for cover.) So even though she's smart and careful, when I saw she had wandered way into the back and was in a bit of an open space, I called out "Puppy!" She was about 200 or so feet away, and she looked up and then started RUNNING toward me. Then, as always, she stopped JUST out of arms reach (I have to take the final step to pick her up - it's a control thing with her.)

Good point... I may use it in the garden paths instead...

Stick a fork in me - I'm done. I slept for about an hour or so after last posting, then got up and did more stuff. At least I got the essentials on my list done today. We'll see how much more I might accomplish in tiny bits through the evening...

You know, no offense Ralphie (the market is what it is), but I just don't understand the whole Frost white legbar craze. One of the things I like the most about my legbars is their coloring, which makes them VERY hard to see if they need to hide (like from a hawk). Around here, a white chicken has a bullseye on it's back saying "eat me" to the hawks. (I am conflicted by my splash marans as well for the same reason, though they aren't so glaring.)

Just goes to show, everyone wants the cool new thing. Make sure you cash in now, Ralphie, the market is fickle!

Star is indeed one of the huggable ones. ^.^

Astrid and Star are probably my two favorite chickens, out of the 40ish I got.

Speaking of chickens, I have poults coming in, do you want a couple?

Actually I just love the look of the whites, I find it corny they put the name frost in it. I know when I looked at Meyers and MypetChicken, They gouge people for them and their anticipated hatch is way less than I have right now.

I have 1 roo and 2 hens from MPC-they are called super blue egg layers. they are supposedly AM X legbar that are said to produce a wealth of true light blue eggs. I paid about $20 a chick from them last year. while as they were flighty at first and white which I don't love in a free range environment, they have grown into their own and proven to be true to their description as far as laying a beautiful blue egg daily for me and have actualy been one of my more friendly birds-especially the roo!!!

I'm sure Ralphies are a bit different and better quality but I am wondering if they are the same concept.

Does anyone else see the oxymoron in this sentence?

Knew this was coming. Comparing the decaf I roast to drink with store bought you'd be 100% correct. However by roasting the green beans of choice one can get a delicious decaf. Much like eggs we raise ourselves and store bought. There I did it again. :gig
