EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Lockdown for ducks is day 25 right? Then I stop turning, get the umidity to 55% and get the temp. umm.... 99? 98?
depends on the type of duck
1 chick out right on time. About 5 more pips that I can see. I put way too many eggs in there and the pedigree bags/boxes are taking up a lot of space.

Soooo, LOL..... I have to confess, as crazy as I am about incubating, this is my 2nd go round, I still believe I prefer a broody hen to do all the work. :jumpy Any whoot, So I did something crazy and it may, or may not, work. I had already place eggs in the incubator while awaiting my eggs to arrive, not thinking like a dummy of course, well, when my eggs arrived, I did candle the ones in the bator and purged the ones that seemed less likely to develop. BUT then I had a crazy idea, and placed all the small banty eggs ontop of the new, larger eggs with the pointy end down, kind of inbetween the eggs. They are turning, but because they are super small banty eggs, and 2 pheasant eggs, they are doing good so far. Has anyone else tried this? If so, how did it work out? I also will be borrowing my girlfriends bator to hatch out in since these eggs are 1 week ahead of the new bigger eggs set. :clap
fat side up, pointy down or bad malpos
puppy is going to a good home, if that is yours make plans to pick her up in about eight weeks @DwayneNLiz ps head still attached, I can order donuts for your pick up as well lol

Glad she's getting a great home (just wish it was mine lol)

Quick question, there is only 5" space between the floor of the cooler and the lightbulb. This ok? I never did look it up on the last Bator coz it had crazy high walls. If I want it to go 2" higher, I'll have to buy new sockets...
trim em, break em

It was my only option since my cooler is so small. Only 8" deep minus the 1" under the wire floor so 7" and the inside is 13"x10".

Might work. But I'm not an expert on building anything lol I bought the wrong light socket and cord for mine and had to go back lol

Thanks!

Remember yesterday when I said, the way my luck goes, I'd have a hen go broody now?

I went to gather eggs today and caught my youngest Welsummer pullet plopped down on a nest of eggs doing the old dragon screech at me and when she finally vacates the nest she is walking around doing that old tuk tuk tuk song that broody hens do. I'm hoping she listens to me when I tell her that A) Welsummer's are not known to be a broody species of chicken and B) There are 11 little ones in the brooder and why couldn't she have thought of this 3 weeks ago.

There's your first one... Sour said the rest would be a bit late; they should be broody by Saturday.
