You ever feel like an oddball? I don't have many friends who get my "farm" life.... i feel weird, the big family, the farm life, the old fashioned lifestyle... 

I have "casual friends" that I make playdates for, with the kids, but that's the extent of it. If we both didn't have kids, we wouldn't be friends, you know?

I miss my best friend back home. She was actually "my" friend. LOL

Not much.... The average bear here lives pretty similar to me. I.e, barn boots in Walmart don't get you looked at funny.

I just noticed - I got my coffee cup back!

All those adorable baby goat pictures are making hubby jealous! Chickens are my thing, goats are his, and I got chickens while he gots no goats. I am e-vil, and must be destroyed!

Let your husband get some goats, and you should set some eggs!

Interesting how what used to be the norm is now weird.

I get it and understand. We faced huge backlash when we decided to homeschool. It wasn't the norm for my family coming from a mother and 2 sisters who are public school teachers.

Interestingly enough one of those sisters decided to start homeschooling her children last year. And now she is encountering the same resistance we did.

I accepted the fact that I was the blacksheep of the family when I "ran away" and joined the service 16 years ago.

They don't get my lifestyle but that's choices we make and do what we feel is best for our family. I say they raised me and now it's my time to raise mine. I have been accused of being old fashioned but I have to ask myself if that's really a bad thing.

Yes, I finally gave my girl 8 eggs to sit on. I went to our Amish neighbor's farm and horse traded a dozen of my eggs for cooking for 6 hatching eggs. He gave me 7 and when he saw my Welsummer eggs his eyes popped. He wound up asking for some to hatch out so I came home and separated the boys so hopefully, the Welsummer and Welsummer/Speckled Sussex cross roosters will get busy and give me some fertile Welsummer eggs by next week.

I found one bantam egg under my hen so I left it and swapped out the fake eggs with real ones. She was very good about me doing that but watched really carefully as I removed one and stuffed two under her.

Here she is, in all her prehistoric glory. The appearance is really deceptive. While my other Welsummer hens can be a bit stand offish, she is really a sweet and friendly hen. I'm wondering if that is because she was broody raised and not brooded in the house like her mother was.

If her appearance is any indication, she is going to be a fierce momma.


Dolly is wearing a hen apron. I think it gives her a nice motherly appearance, LOL!!

Congratulations everyone on the new baby goats. They make me want a couple-4-5-6. It's kinda like chicken math isn't it?

Since testing is free in MO, there is no advantage to becoming a certified tester.
The tester comes to my property and he's usually at farms by 8 AM even though he sometimes has to travel 4 hours or more to reach one from the center of the state.
He always puts on plastic booties, coveralls and gloves. He never goes to 2 without complete clothing changes and washing up.

Thanks for the great info. Here it is kind of silly because anyone came become a tester and claim they have tested there flock. Going rate seems to be 50 cents a bird plus mileage. I hope to do it for others in exchange for mileage and hatching eggs.

I commend you for that. Unfortunately I think part of what drove the feminist movement was the fact that men weren't doing their part to make the women of their lives feel valued and appreciated. Just my opinion and everybody has one.
