GOOD MORNING, MY FUZZY, FURRY, FEATHERY AND FUNNY FRIENDS!

Thanks, MC.

I guess I overdid it yesterday and Friday getting ready for the cats, have a roaring migraine this AM (I'm at the computer because lying flat makes it worse, with the pressure). I have to go check on all the chicks and change water, hope the coffee and pain meds kick in soon.

Sorry about your migraine, I hope you get over it quickly.

My hand did something very weird yesterday-it went white but the scars flared up like fire red and it was soooo painful

It looks "normal" now but took about 2 hours to settle down. I took a pic-I'll see if I can post it. We were going to go to the casino after but it hurt too bad. Regardless, I got out for my anniversary and had a nice time

Hi Mel. Sorry to hear about your hand. I pray they get it figured out and resolved soon.

@duluthralphie good morning. I was up I just couldn't get to BYC yet. I had to feed kids, milk goats, and do chores to get ready for church leave for church because I have parking lot Duty and now I have a few minutes.

I finished my new breeder / Broody hen in my coop under the poop boards. It is a little rough but it will work. It even has a roost and I am going to rig a little flap door on the one side so I can rake it out.

Very nice, Dax.

When I sold two back legs and a Dowling yesterday as bottle babies for $600 that's not bad. It will help me finish fencing. Unfortunately, it means lots more milking since each of my Dairy days now I only have one kid which is not enough.
Awesome! Congratulations.

Hello Benny!

I need some help quick

A friend is trying to find Kristins Hoop coop links and I cant find them in the notes, the ones that I see there are the square coop she built

No - this started with her asking me for help, and now that I've adopted these two, I wasn't able to help her.  I make my vanilla extract right in the bottle - I get the smaller sized bottle, pour just a little bit out, and stuff a whole bunch of good vanilla beans in. ...And Red Bull. Really good with Red Bull. (But not very good for you.) I learned this by sharing drinks in a pub in Munich back in 2000 with a guy who claimed to be a personal friend of Putin. (I think he was just trying to get lucky - that's what my brother says, he was there. But still, creepy...) OMG, Dan, I missed it, why do you have all these goatsies???!!!!!! I really do wonder if this is that "cooling" factor - similar to what Brinsea has added as a feature to their incubator programming. (@Pensmaster - what was the outcome of you using the cooling function? I missed it.) :clap Awesome!!! :thumbsup I agree, that's why I acted. I felt it was serendipity, which is how cat ownership tends to go for me. Opal is under the futon, having found an old stuffed dog toy (a cow) to hide behind, and Brooke is under a set of shelves. I decided to put a little plate of food near each of them so at least they'd have the option of a snack. - Ant Farm
It worked really well. 19 out of 24 hatched. Found out later your supposed too start the cooling at day 7, I started it right away. Also we had two 3 hour power outages the last 2 days of lockdown. All 24 went into lockdown. Lockdown was in a styrofoam incubator.

Thanks. I'm sitting here making a to do list of the things I HAVE to do today. It's not encouraging. I'm just going to have to go deal with the chicks in full on migraine mode. This should be fun. Not.
I've had a migraine on and off for the last 2 weeks. Must be something in the air. It's why hubby wouldn't let me drive to SA to get that cat myself. He was worried about me driving.
I hope your migraines end.

No not fun, are the chicks doing better?

Rained all night. Still have chickens to cull amongst other things on list.
Thanks!

Pens, you had a busy day yesterday, sounds like another busy day today. Rained all day and evening here as well - I have to move a growout tractor. I'm dreading it because of it sinking into the mud. I very well may just wait and do it in a couple days when the ground dries out. The first batch of hatched chicks is approaching 8 weeks. They are really sweet, and are generally ok in their brooder, believe it or not - definitely cramped, definitely should have been outside by now, but I'm keeping things clean (not easy) and they aren't suffering. They're just a little bored. I spent some time cuddling with them this morning - I open the door to the brooder and stand there, and one by one they pop up on the edge and present themselves for cuddling and press themselves up against me. Super happy with these chicks - their size and disposition.

As for the S&G chicks... found three more dead chicks this morning (that makes 6 if you count the one who died in transit), and there's another that is weak, though getting around. All the rest are running around and looking really good, though I'm paranoid now that they're going to keep dropping. I'm keeping my eye out for pasty butt - nobody has it, but a couple of them have little bits of poop on the down under their vent. With the migraine, I didn't have the coordination this morning to do the rinse-blowdry-vaseline thing with them, but I may do so later today if I can.

Never went to bed 'til early this morning; watched "Texas Rising" start to finish.
No reason or motivation to get dressed or do anything more than finish this coffee & open the coop.

This was when it happened and then when it finally started settling down. Anybody medical here have any ideas??? It was the weirdest thing!

I haven't been able to wear my wedding rings because of the swelling. yesterday I got them on but freaked out when the hand did this I I couldn't get them off! It was so weird. Normally when things get cold the shrink and when they heat up they swell... My hand was ice cold and dead minus the scars that were on fire. But it was almost double the usual size
he.gif

I'm not as strong on the clinical side of things, but that sounds like something vascular, like Raynaud's phenomenon. Raynaud's can have pallor and swelling (though I'm not sure if they would be concordant or not). Your description of the other stuff that happens at OT also sounds vascular... Just a thought.

Last night I opened the freezer to grab a bottle of vodka to make a vodka and tonic, and there wasn't any.
Tragic!!!

I think the cooling period is set at one hour per day for chickens. These were also my eggs. It was a new incubator and done as an experiment I really didn't need more chicks. I did not calibrate just set it and let it go. Have to say haven't had this good of a hatch rate on mine but, I was using the styrofoam incubator before this. I will be very careful on what I experiment on for eggs in the new incubator from now on. I now have 16 growing chicks that there's just not enough room for. I will use the cooling cycle again on the Altsteriers in the summer. The experiment were breeds I won't be keeping.
