The Arctic outflow arrived today with howling winds creating lake effect snow squalls and blowing snow. The -16C temp felt more like -30C (I disagree I know what -30 is like and -40s…. At -40C your power cable to plug your truck in had better be rubber coated not plastic which cracks and breaks in those cold temps).
Hoping to get all my heat lamps and the diesel heater running in the barn tomorrow- help keep horses and chooks warm, and this old lady too!
(1/23) 3, all duck.
I did find a pullet's egg in the ducks run, would have been laid yesterday. It got buried so I didn't see it, but the chickens dug it up today.
2 eggs the day before yesterday, from Juin and Ebrel
I’ve been so busy prepping for the storm. We’re forecast 0.5”+ of ice accumulation. My little flock of 6 is sleeping in a pen in my living room. We live on a hill, and the chicken coop is at the bottom of it, across a bridge over creek. I didn’t want to not be able to get to them after the freezing rain and potential downed trees/powerlines. They’re also going to keep me warm if we have an outage during a deep freeze. It’ll all be alright
