EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

You don't use air-conditioning for heating? (I can't stand it, but here alot of people do use it)

Are you talking about heat pumps or heat exchangers?

I am not sure that I understand, but the air conditioner unit that we use for cooling in summer , can also heat

@ChickenCanoeIf I I'm going to use extension cord I might as well just use my mama heating pad. What is the fixture and ceramic heater you are talking about? The coup is about 8 feet wide and outlet is on the opposite wall.

In this part of the country, a furnace, wood stove, boiler or similar heat source is necessary since it can get down to -20F.
In the summer, people used to live without air conditioning but it was miserable (I remember). It can get to 120F and it doesn't cool down at night in the hottest summers. There are nights it doesn't drop below 90F.
You forgot the miserable 90% plus humidity to go with the heat on those night. :th

Mine developed well when I was hand turning but died later on in development. Pretty sure it was the humidity that caused that though! Trying to do different techniques to see what works well hopefully this one will
You might find this article about egg turning interesting.

OK, I get you. I'm familiar with those. I used them in Central America and some places in Europe.
Not sure how they work but motels here have similar units but much larger. The same thing heats and cools.
I forgot about them. They work better for a single room.

Central heat and air utilize 2 different dedicated units tied to the same duct work system that goes throughout the house or business.

I think that would be better. You'd be wasting some of the generated heat in the conduit. It's better to put all the heat in one spot (like a broody hen) so the chicks can find their comfort zone.
I'm sure you've seen them.

I use those with the reptile emitters.

I also use them in my Ohio brooders for brooding lots of chicks at once.

Dad was in the heating/ac business most of his working life, first for a Carrier distributor, then a Bryant distributor. He couldn't stand heat pumps; said they were too expensive to run.
They are pretty inefficient most of the time and I don't think they last as long since they run year round.

More likely is is engine noise, and words like brooder where it types breeder every time.
Or you could be right.

Likely.

I did forget. How could I?
And it is year round.

Well, I am now starting to save up for another incubator!

Maybe I should start a GO-Fund-Me! (Help preserve rare Magpie duck breeds! Get this girl an incubator to help her hatch 'em!)
