EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

:frow  Hey!
So glad you have great folks at your post office. It makes such a difference.

BTW, I haven't gotten around to roasting coffee yet - too busy. Hopefully soon.

I had figured you were too busy. When I stopped in the PO the gal asked if the eggs would hatch there. I explained that it takes three weeks in the incubator and that seemed to put her mind at ease. I almost didn't make it in time they were taking the flag down for the day. She was very aware that people wanted to pick eggs up themselves and said that my number was probably on the box. It won't be as I didn't get much of a chance to tell the folks in Florida my number.

Oh my sour crop chicken is doing much better. 2 more days of acidified cooper sulphate and need to decide if I am going to worm.

That's super to hear!!! Banti, did you link the info for sour crop and acidified copper sulphate that he's using in the links?

I am not a waterfowl lover and my dad just told me he wants geese in his pond. I tried talking him into ducks, but thinks geese are more predator proof. He doesn't plan on keeping them over the winter. So now I get to research breeds any suggestions?

What type of thermometer should I get to go along with the built in digital one that may be inaccurate?

Fish tank thermos, make sure you calibrate them. They're about $2 at Walmart.

Not sure I agree on them, Some of my worst hatches were with them. Just saying.... however Calibration is key. We have links to suggestions from experienced hatchers in Twps section of notes. I can't grab her the links on iPad though.

Still waiting on my quail. Haven't moved or anything yet ( day 16) I'm so impatient lol. Trying to keep myself busy isn't working! Hopefully tomorrow something will happen. Even a little egg roll I'll be happy

Brother in law swears he had a leghorn that I gave him that laid eggs half developed. Told him he was probably picking up old eggs from a broody but he says no. Can't convince him otherwise.
