I will definitely be calibrating and redoing my humidity next try. And I'm doing another trial run before putting in the order. Just to see if I do any better and about what to expect. I've decided to disect the dead five tomorrow and leave the two for as long as they need, be it they die or hatch

oh you.  Crying over a turkey, you cant hide your true self no matter what you type :)

:frow   Hi MC what are you two up to?

Well... She loves the hamster (so far she hasn't forgotten, and kicked a field goal with the hamster in its ball!), and then I introduced her to the hermit crabs. :gig She saw the shell, then tiny little fingers jumped out at her! She stepped back, and said, "I don't like that one!" Late this morning, she wanted to see them. We played with them for about fifteen minutes. She isn't too bad with them!
Then... (aren't you sorry you asked?!) I bought a popcorn maker while Heather was here. I had Duckling work it. :lol: When she saw the popcorn shooting into the bowl, she grabbed two spoons, and caught it. I didn't flavor it, so she only ate a little. But she had a lot of fun! She threw snowballs at me while doing chicken chores, and I found my first two turkey eggs, as well as two SPR eggs. My first SPR eggs in that coop!

which birds did I take or who did i take to dinner? both asa and scna members went out for dinner to celebrate-it was very nice!

This pic reminded me of something every time I saw it.

I'm glad it wasn't just me. {{{shudder}}}

I just had an adventure in chickening..

I went to check for late eggs lock the barn and take Cuddles away from the hens and put him in his heated room over night.

Cuddles was no interested in my picking him up, he took 3 steps away from me and the door. Then he let me pick him up. During those three steps, three Speckled Sussex hens ran out the door. These are not free ranging birds this time of year. They normally love to be held, picked up and act like that goose running towards me when they see me. Not tonight. They decided to run away from me. SO I am chasing the hens with cuddles under my left arm. Reaching down to pick up a hen with Cuddles under my arm is not as easy as it sounds.

They gave me the slip. I finally got one and threw her back in the coop. The other ran over to the door, so I figured this was my chance. I opened the door and tried to chase them in with the right arm, (this is the arm without Cuddles under it). The hens stopped and looked at me long enough for the one I had just thrown in to run out.

I decided I would never get them while holding Cuddles. I took Cuddles to his room, tucked him in and went back to get the hens. I opened the door 2 jumped in. I reached down and picked up the 3rd. The fourth looked at me and tried to sneak by my right side, but grabbed her.

Life was good again. I wish the temps were warm enough t just leave Cuddles outside, way to much work for me.
I was getting ready for a bath and read this, and was reminded of how very stupid my Eggplant birds (marans, CLs, and the OE) have been about going to bed at night lately. So even though it was 10pm, I went out in my birthday suit plus boots just to double check (I have a privacy fence and private back yard, thankyouverymuch). Sure enough, one of the Cream Legbar girls was perching at the tippy top of a 6ft T post trying to roost there, doing her very best impression of an owl snack (they nest in my yard). So I had to pull her off the T-post, open the run, open the coop, put her on the roost, and notice that Monkey has some strange thing on his comb that will need to be dealt with later - all in my skivvies. Chickens are never dull...

Busy busy, had the pellet stove half installed and the internet went out. Ran new phone line guessing a mouse chewed it. Hauled 100 bails home for the beef. Made the 2 hr round trip to the Dr. With the 6 yr olds ear infection. Did this right after I made the 1.5 hr round trip to get phone wire. Spent time with every animal. Need to burtcher a couple toms before they breed the poor hen to death. The sour crop is not fully gone so I picked up monistat today. One chicken is missing feathers on the top of her back just in front of her tail. Just going to watch it for a couple days. Have no idea what caused it. Doesn't look like I missed any young roosters when butchered 2 weeks ago. All quail are well, added a light hoping they start laying soon. Thinking of shipping 2 beef that are not going to build the frames I want. The 2 angus and 1 Hereford will get bread this fall for sure. Guessing the 2 Charlotte steers will be ready to burtcher around Christmas. Second round of wormer to the 3 dogs. Got the house in order for the community garden meeting that was here tonight. On tap for this week. Finish pellet stove install, Dr. 2 chickens, take pics of beef for BYC friends, build 2 greenhouse kits for community garden if it is not to windy, if it warms up need to burtcher 2 turkeys. Need to lock down for Saturday hatch. Found quail eggs $.50 each good looking birds less than an hr away. Back cracker on Tuesday and Back Dr. On Friday. If I get that done can start bathroom remodel, 5 sons with there dads aim, I am putting a urinal in there bathroom.
