It's all about them. No concern for anyone else. The bad boys always seem like fun at first... this has been my lifelong struggle!
Any of you that remember my eggs that were due on the 13th, might be interested to know that one of the three just pipped. My daughter is watching tiny egg shells fall off! This is day 27 for that egg. We now have two externally pipped. The other is just 21-23 days.
I don't think I've ever heard of eggs hatching successfully a week late. The late eggs are Barred Rock, and the others are Welsummer. They are all in the same incubator. My boss thought it would be fun for my kids to hatch some so she bought this incubator for them. I put the first eggs in and marked them 2/20, the date of entry. There were 4 of them. After that date, the kids kept putting more in..All within 4-5 days. The first to pip is a Welsummer. It pipped at an unknown hour last night, maybe 20 hrs ago. The crack still looks the same, although the egg has been rocking a little. The second to pip is a barred rock. I just heard it peep for the first time. It has actually made a hole..But the hole is at the wrong end. The Welsummer pipped middle of egg, Rock at the bottom. I was in the room when the Rock made its first crack and hole. Only a few hours ago.
I had the same questions.I have some questions:
1) Do you hatch in the same incubator or have another Hatcher?
2) Are you sure of the hatch date? This is 6 days later seems you might be a week off on the count.
3)What species are we talking about, sorry I am old with a short memory...
I think the goal is for them to hatch on Holy Saturday, which would put the set date at March 25, the day of my chicken class at the community college. That should be easy for me to remember. When is set date for LF chicken eggs for easter hal?
without watching my guess is someone or something ends up with poop all over them...
Considering all the things that could go wrong with incubation, the very first thing to tackle is consistent accurate temperature.I will definitely be calibrating and redoing my humidity next try. And I'm doing another trial run before putting in the order. Just to see if I do any better and about what to expect. I've decided to disect the dead five tomorrow and leave the two for as long as they need, be it they die or hatch
I would have had lots of fruit growing after an unseasonably warm January and the warmest February in history but after 5 nights of hard freezes last week, most is toast. We'll be over 80F today.
Allow me to put this in a way everyone can understand.
I am so sick, I won't be having coffee today.
I'll be back to open the coffee shop in about twenty minutes.
I think I'll have a beer. It's not just for breakfast any more.
I'm sorry - I hope you feel better soon.Allow me to put this in a way everyone can understand.

Sorry - didn't mean to rub it in. These are my first apple trees, so I'm excited.![]()
As tired as I was, I woke up at about 4:15am with a lot of hand pain - just the usual consequence of operating the orbital sander for long periods, can't be helped. But I have learned from experience that I need to get up and get the hand/arm vertical and moving around to get it to recede. Then when it did about 15 minutes later, I got back in bed, but Opal came to visit me in the bed to be little miss cuddlebuns (it seems that early morning is "their time"). Loved it, but wasn't getting sleep, and I was really awake anyhow, so I just decided to get up and do some laundry, etc. Nice to not rush for once in the morning - eating some scrambled eggs with goat cheese on toast (homemade goat cheese, homemade bread/toast, and yeah, the eggs - I still think that's so cool!).
Having my second cup of coffee (don't tell my doctor!). I am now completely convinced that goat milk tastes better than cows milk in coffee.![]()
