EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

@Sally SunshineSorry, I was not trying to be contentious. I am just more comfortable with disbudded goats from my experience. I use plastic collars, and while horns help as handle bars, they have a lot of bad points as you know.

Good Morning all.

Thanks for the coffee, beautiful Abi! I hope you feel better soon! You could lay down and let Duckling be your nurse.

Just make sure she doesn't give you used tissues.

All this duck hate... and we are over here loving our new ducks! They are used to me now and no longer take off in the other direction. They just associate me with food, but I'm okay with that!

I attempted to list my rooster on the bulletin board yesterday and quickly had my hand slapped due to the bird ban in effect here right now. Guess I am stuck with him a while longer.

@daxigait Prayers for your work situation. I know how that is and feel for you. Make sure you state the facts, in writing if you can.

have been incubating my first batch of eggs. I started out with twelve. Four weren't fertilized, one I cracked, and five have had blood rings. So I have two eggs left in the incubator going into lockdown Thursday. What did I do wrong that caused so many to die? I have three dozen more eggs to put in Saturday for the Easter hatch. I want to have a high hatch rate for this next hatch, any tips? Also, how do I make sure both eggs left in the incubator hatch this Sunday? I want both to hatch any tips help! Thanks!

this is from Mt Washington

I had four thermometers inside the incubator and they were all around the same. Two new thermometers with two old thermometers that gave good readings.
that doesnt mean they are calibrated

Wife went back to work this morning, which I doubt was the smartest thing she's ever done, considering she likely picked up the bug from the kids on her bus. She's not feeling bad, other than the dry cough.
It didn't hit me near as bad as it did her. About all I got out of it was the cough, which was only bad for a couple days; not even close to what she went through.

No, they are not shipped. I got my eggs from a local lady with thirty chickens. I don't know what they are fed or how old they are, but I have to get my eggs from her because I need eggs from around the same elevation as me. I started with a still air incubator and then got a forced air incubator after about a week of incubating.
