EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Hi there! Nice and green here, how about you? You're too funny, but I do love the poop pictures!

Very green here as well busy putting in fire breaks. We've had 42 inches of rain so far I think the record back in the 1880's was 45. Still have 3 months to beat it.

Couldn't get camera out fast enough. Another hen stepped in it.

Good thing she wasnt more east! muwahhahhaaaa Her very first blizzard would have been fun to make her drive in it! You have some great advice from Kat and Paddler be sure to bookmark and read read read CH!! Nope never mixed our serama. thought about it but never had any other bantams to try it HA HAHA Whats black ice you say??? love it!!! till I fall and crack my head on it! :frow hmmmm you think you will look good in these? lolzzzz Kaj how the kiddos feeling? :fl pics would help held humidity? you should be adjusting as needed through 7 to 18. are they sticky chicks? excess fluid that dries them inside at lockdown. I always use 70 or above from external pips on it goes way high when they start to hatch. you kept the bator closed? or you opened it on occation? Everytime you open that bator DURING LOCKDOWN, think of it this way..... Opening your door on a cold day into a nice warm house, it almost takes your breath away, what that does to the egg SHELLS is sucks all that moisture that has accumulated in all those tiny pores. People think because humidity on the gauges goes up right away it has no effect but in turn it does. It takes much longer to begin to fill all those pores again. Keep this in mind when opening that thing in lockdown.
No sticky chicks the one that piped and died wasn't even dry. The first day of lock down I went from 40-50 humidity. Then I had a pip and raised it to 65-70.

ok  we use small single headlamps enough to feed and water but not to light the area!  I did purchase two of those solar lights, but we put one near the trash cans and one at the goats so certainly not covering the area

Having the bears in the area is quite scary. One completely tore a gals coop apart in Penryn just a few miles east of me. There isn't a coop or house for that matter built strong enough. I have lights both sides of the barn to help but like you said it doesn't cover enough. I've actually got it switched from the bedside in case something is out there.
