its pretty consistantly at 40% and then I bring it up to about 50 for hatch. Id bring it up more but the air cells say otherwise.

Air cells are the judge here for sure. Your hygrometer may be saying it's 40% but in reality it might be 55% it could be that far off.

Air cells looked good. During hatch I left humidity at 50% becauee the air cells were a little small but with it at 50% this time I got a better result than when I did 60-70 humidity. For the first 4 hatches i used a sperate incubator (genesis) for hatches and was having trouble then... I did my last two batches in my cabinet incubator and got better chicks (easier time getting out of the shell) and they fluffed up better... However i still got 3 who stuck to the shell and didnt escaoe the shell and had curled toes.

Want to add that I've been spraying eggs before incubation with peroxide and a denagard mixture.

That's odd, Is it supposed to help hatch? I've never had to do that. Isn't peroxide caustic?

Recheck your hygrometer. It really sounds like it's not reading right for you.

I've got an electronic and GQF hygrometer, and theyer both reading 40% at the moment. :\ what kind of thing will stop a chick from hatching or attempting to pip!?

Both of them could be off. Calibration is key. Once someone showed four different hygrometers in their incubator all four were off considerably. Enough to make a difference. DONT trust the factory to do the calibration for you.

Ok I just looked up Denegard from what I've read it's only for swine. Why would you want to use it on eggs? I'm not sure I'm following the need for this and peroxide.

peroxide simply kills most external bacteria that might creep in once the eggs are warmed up and the eggs start pulling in more moisture. The less bacteria the lass contamination to the embryo trying to develope.

Denagard is a Mycoplasma med, but I've never heard of using it as an egg spray, no clue on peroxide

Fancy chicken try not using the spray, calibrate the hygrometers even thought they both read the same. They could both be off by 15%. Run a test in your other incubator. The hens put an anti bacterial on their shells and the spray may be doing more harm than good. I have never sprayed mine. I also don't wash them however I do get the cleanest eggs possible.
