EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I only try to maintain the edge on about half of the pond, the part that my daughter plays around the most. But, as you can see, the rest needs some serious work. I just don't have the time for all the upkeep.
That's a lake!!! I can reach most sides of mine with a backhoe. And it's beyond time to do it. Yes it's way too much to keep up with.

You all have a private pond there?

I'm am so proud of my magpie drake. He and his mate cheri were foraging. Our girl goat likes to buck anyone who comes in her pen, unless they are goat or human, and she had some leftover greens from the kitchen in her pen. My magpie pair were sticking their heads in to nibble at the greens and the goat tried to hit her with her horns, though I do not think she got her. Miel stuck his head in and head in a bit the goat. He is such a gentleman. (To the magpie girl anyway) What do you think of that @duluthralphie ?!

And I named the ducklings. They are the Cs (all the names I liked started with c

) Celeste, Calissta, and Cyrila. (I like Chrissy, but I knew
@BantyChooks 's duck Chrissy (Or maybe it's Chrissy's Bantychooks...) would not like that.

It's private till the state finds out about it. I had to shut mine down due to the well being right at the edge of it. With city water in now I don't have to worry about it. Mines more of a long ditch that the gold miners put in back in the 1940's for their dredging. Huge gold mining here in those days.

Good morning Heather. Same here on the pond. Trying to get it back up and running. It will take a backhoe at this point to get rid of weeds. I think I'll leave the dead tree for fish hideouts though. It's a small pond but takes lots of time.

Absolutely beautiful. Appears very well maintained as compared to mine.

I agree anything over an acre is a lake. Theres no way I could maintain that size. I have just under an acre and it's a mess.

What was the concern with the well? pond water getting into the well? Was the well used to fill the pond? Mine is currently set up to be fed by a shallow well but I currently have a hole in the dam so it isnt holding but about half capacity(which is still 5-10ft at deepest part). If I could figure out an easy way to repack the dam I would fill and restock, as it sits its little more than an eyesore and a breeding ground for turtles, snakes, mosquitos, and the annaul pair of geese that decide to nest on the island.

That was scary. I let the ducks forage. Came inside for maybe 15 minutes. Went out to put them in and daffodil the lilac ancona girl was now where to be found. It wasn't like her to wander off. They ducks refuse to let the house out of there sight. And she wasn't calling for her friend which is definetely not like her. I was scared to death. I looked everywhere. Under the goat house, in the weeds. I couldn't find her. I was so upset. But I found her. She had gotten herself stuck between two hay bales so tight she could not move or call for help. Don't know how she did it. It is just like daffodil to do something like that. She is the weirdo of the group.
