Three week old Speckled Sussex, yes I have others, most aren't even enlarging yet.
There's your sign. Longer, thicker legs and rapidly developing comb.

I think this should be it for her. I have 6 of them in the bator that I took and from what I am reading, this is the end of their laying season. Whew!

Laying season is not a fun time for me and geese-she is stubborn and all he does is hiss and follow me. He has never been aggressive-just wants me to know not to mess with his woman!
I have some friends that started Geese Peace. It is a group that advocates humane control of nuisance Canadians. When they nest in business parks or overwhelm cemeteries a friend has federal and state permits to take down goose nests and run the geese off.
I'll see if I can find a video of her getting attacked by a gander. There was an injured goose that I helped catch and rehome.

I'd have had a heart attack on the spot! I did almost put a hand down on a rat snake that was hanging on a mortar joint between two blocks of the basement wall, though. I'm so paranoid about snakes in the house that I actually shot one inside the house last year in the basement. Came in once to find a shed skin in the Venetian blinds...'bout 6' long. DW don't know about that one.

I got lucky this year with the mower, so far. I'd pulled the battery last year & set it in the basement, on the charger, where it stayed 'til yesterday. I'd also run both tanks dry, so I had no gas-turned-to-shellac in the carbs to contend with.

I re-installed the battery yesterday, poured <a cup of gas in each tank, & hit the switch. I cranked a while 'til the fuel lines were full, and fired up. No problem; didn't even get hung up & have to pull it out.
Smart.

The skill of welding, never tried but I'm sure if I ever learned it would be a priceless skill set to add to the kit.
I'm glad I was forced to take a welding class. It was a requirement at Ford for all skilled trades to learn to weld. It was because they were going to eliminate the welding trade so everyone had to do their own welding. I wasn't fond of the class and it was the only class that I didn't make an A in. He gave me a B.
But since then I bought an arc welder and a mig welder. Glad to have them.
Being able to do carpentry, masonry/stone work and weld all types of metal is wonderful.

How well do eggs hatch under a broody hen? I'm about to have 2 coops and thought about getting some hen to do some hatching...
Depends on the hen but usually, they get top notch results.
Try bantam Cochins or (I can't believe I'm saying it) silkies.

It's private till the state finds out about it. I had to shut mine down due to the well being right at the edge of it. With city water in now I don't have to worry about it. Mines more of a long ditch that the gold miners put in back in the 1940's for their dredging. Huge gold mining here in those days.
49ers.

Geese.

The Story of Adam & Eve's Dog

Adam and Eve said, 'Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you anymore. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us.'

And God said, I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves.'

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.

And it was a good animal and God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.

And Adam said, 'Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal.'

And God said, 'I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG.'

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.

And they were comforted.

And God was pleased.

And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, 'Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well.'

And God said, I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration.'

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.

And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.

And Adam and Eve learned humility.

And they were greatly improved.

And God was pleased...

And Dog was happy.

And Cat . . .

Didn’t give a crap one way or the other.

.During hatching season there are generally several pairs that nest around the pond where I fish. They're so accustomed to humans that they get bold every so often & have to be put in their place. I was fishing one time & found a gosling tangled in a wad of monofiliment fishing line that some slob fisherman had left. Momma was nearby, eyeballing me. I got hold of the line and was able to get close enough to cut the young one loose w/o Momma getting involved. Got lucky.
