EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

"A" hoss, not "the" hoss..

Or, a better way of putting it would be "as healthy as the extra rooster nobody likes"...

Well put!

IF YOU'RE HAPPY AND YOU KNOW IT, HUG A MOSQUITO!!!

Belated thanks, MC!!!
Love this one! @Fire Ant Farm
She's one of about 6 fully feathers chicks that were added as "padding" with the NNs - she was hoping most would be girls that could be put with my suitably colored NN roosters. All but this girl are boys, though.

Thanks - I had a mini migraine today - mild enough that I went in to work anyway to go to a couple "must go" meetings, but when I came home (early), I crashed for several hours. I make a list of things I am grateful for every day. Today on the list was being alert enough to drive home safely, and being thankful that I scrubbed out all the waterers and filled the feeders yesterday, so that the only thing I had to do today was collect eggs. .

I thought you worked right across the street?
I do - I went to my cardiology appointment that afternoon, only to find that they had messed up and he was in another office that day, so I headed back home. It was still just blocks form home, but I don't like to drive with a migraine - even across the street is dangerous if you're unsteady.

Leg color is genetic - white is dominant, lack of both copies of that gene (forget the name of it) gives yellow legs. Several different breeds went into creating these, including Speckeld Sussex, which are white legged. But the goal for Alohas is yellow legs...

Hi everyone. I am back from the Dr. He was very receptive today and my hand was not in good shape. Based on his exam, the photos of my hand turning blue, my OT's notes & conversation she had with him and the independent eval, he feels that in fact we are dealing with RSD. I am starting new medications and treatment for this. On top of hearing the "official" diagnosis, comp and disability are being difficult and I am extremely overwhelmed. I will be taking a break for a bit to process all this. I will be ok. Thank you for your friendship and continued thoughts and prayers during a very difficult time for me. Hopefully a day or so of rest will get me back to "normal". I'm just out of it right now

Migraine continued through the evening and overnight and into today, so I stayed home, in pain in bed until about 3:30. Horrible day. But I was able to get up and get the necessary stuff done. Discovered that the severely stunted and "not normal" chick in the S&G NN brooder had been attacked badly, big wounds near vent. Tried some first aid, but when I took him back, it was clear that there was a good chance of him being eviscerated overnight (probably because he's abnormal). I ended up culling him (he was 1/4 the size of the others and not quite right). It was necessary, but is always a little bit sad.
